Had a normal Mondeo Mk2 V6 Estate and (driven sensibly) got about 30 - 40 mpg out of it. Had no real issues either.

However they seem to have a habit of blowing brake lines (t-piece at the rear). Maybe it's because we have loads of salt here and Mk2 Mondeos are usually quite rotten but I've personally come across 3 cases so far. Reasonably cheap fix too, so better have a look before the pedal goes to the floor...
