Default MK 2 Golf gti wont re-start after breakdown

My mk 2 golf gti 90 8v which has been fully serviced last June with new leads, plugs dizzy, arm, coil, oil and filters started juddering badly today then broke down and the RAC man came and couldn't get it started. He checked the leads and found the king lead damaged, the porcelin had snapped off into the dizzy and then some of the leads had been arching badly in the dizzy so that was renewed and the leads. I turned it over and it never started to our surprise, so he checked for spark which there was and checked the fuel rail which had fuel pumped to it so with both our heads scratching the car was towed to my local garage. what could it be? it has a cobra immobo but has never caused any probems before and surely it would cut something out?

any advice would be great thank you

It has a spark at the king lead but what about at the HT side, rotor arm good?

Yes immobiliser would cut fuel/ignition, you have both so it isn't that!

Spark at the plugs? And is there fuel past the injector rail?

timing is spot on, compression's are good. They got it started but runs really lumpy and sometime wont re-start.

Good fuel and fuel filter?

I don't know the first thing about them, i.e. the fuel setup etc, from what your saying I would say it's EFI?

You/they need to assertain exactly what is happening to cause it to cut out, i.e. is it running rich etc?
