Just incase anybody else is wanting to know my special k friend that's in the know said it's the drivers side, he also checked the ford manuals for me and it turns out the Haynes manual was right too, drivers side it is...

doesn't make sense to me, as the wheels 90% of the time turn clockwise - tighten

so why would the left hooker thread be on the "loosen - anti-clockwise" side?

I'm 95% sure when i've removed them from Escort cossie's they are pass side rear.

Imagine if you held a socket on the nut and pushed the car forward. You would undo the offside hubs and tighten the near side if they was all normal right hand threads. That's why the offside is left handed

https://passionford.com/forum/genera...de-of-car.html

Read post 10 for confirmation of what i wrote above, if Prius (Tony Mannock @ TurboSystems) has this wrong then i'll eat a LH hub nut!

Just to clarify we are talking about FORD RS COSWORTH's here and not any other make / model of car.

think about it if the lh thread was on the nearside then it loosens off clockwise, as the wheel is rotating anticlockwise the wheel stands a good chance of coming loose

its left hand side

a left hand thread to do up you turn anti clockwise so with the wheel turning anti clockwise aswell it gets tighter and wont undo itself

The left hand thread is on the left hand side. For a UK car that means the passenger side, but for my LHD car it's on the driver's side, perhaps that is what is causing the confusion.

Why would you not put it on the passenger side, regardless....less likely chance of it undoing it's self?

Well, sorry to say you are wrong. The haynes manual clearly says the left nut has the left hand thread. Apart from that I have undone it several times and I am 100% sure it's the left one.

I've done this job on mine yesterday after rebuilding the hubs, mines a 4wd and the LH nut goes on the rear passenger side.

I bagged and labelled everything up and even took pictures.

It's the only LH thread on all of the hubs.

Passenger side!

Tony, I believe you!

Christ this is an old thread, I was in the garage the other day and there was an old jag in with centre lock hubs on it and i even checked that to see which way they tightened, as you said its left handed on the drivers side.
