Default Anyone running a T4 on a standard 4x4 engine?

I need to buy a turbo for the saph, whilst I was planning on a T34/0.63 I'm also considering a T4, but I have no idea if it's a good idea or not I'll be brutally honest.
I've always liked the idea of sticking on a T4, is it pointless and will it be a pig to drive (mainly on the road)???
The engine is rebuilt so its in good nick, but also means I've no desire to pull it apart again anytime soon.
So...blank canvas, what should i do with it?
It already has all the necessary ancillaries like breather rad/cooler/fuel pump/brakes/aeroquip done already, so I'm more fussed about chip/injectors/turbo for now.

If it needs a new turbo a t4 is a good option. Plus a remap (and maybe injectors) and it'll pull lovely

T4 and Siemens 55s with Air Injectors controlling the turbo to 22psi via live map works really well on a standard YB.

Ok cheers guys, now I just gotta find a T4 for a "reasonable" amount. What about manifold, will that have to be on a 2WD job, with an alternator drop bracket or not??

What sort of power would you see from that spec Stu?

Thanks, I will look at that later, cant view the pics at work because of internet filtering rules.
I have a 2WD manifold already and a drop bracket, I presume you've used the 2wd manifold? Do you have a turbo hanger and if so are you using a 2WD or 4x4 head, how is the turbo hanger mounted if it's on a 4x4 head?

Id go with something a bit smaller a t4 is a big lump, and the standard head dosnt flow air well, a t34 would make for a much better engine IMHO

what sort of power & torque would that produce?

isnt 22psi a little bit low boost to run on a big t4? i wouldnt think that would drive that nice.

At what psi would surge be a problem on a standard motor running a t4?

We fitted one on my brothers 4x4 and we did'nt drop the alt bracket and we put it on a 4x4 manifold, just went on. Was very good was on standard engine with a set of light blues and 2 bar boost.

Bailey turbo damper for a 4x4 head.

I didn't like the way the power came in a a std head with a t38 let alone a t4

Ok, coming together slowly, I oredered the siemens injectors from MSD last night, still havent decided on a turbo yet. Can you elaborate on your point about you didnt like the way it drove?
Was it nothing....nothing....nothing...nothing...BANG?
I' thinking it's possible to use a 4x4 manifold going from the comment above, but what would i be better off with?

Could you use a 4x4 manifold or would you need the 2wd?

Yep exactly that, made it difficult to drive because I had to pin the throttle and wait....then boost!!

Awesome turbo on the right spec though. I put a ported head on the car and timed the cams in and now lag isn't a big issue.

Hmmm ok, I quite like the idea of a lag monster Just wonder if i'd regret or get bored of it. The best thing I have always loved about turbo cars is the kick in the arse when it gets going.

But you get more revs of spool up and less on boost.

Doesn't matter anyway you'll love a t4 once you get one you'll think how can I make it less spool up more boost

I went for a T4 on a totally standard engine, and in all honesty I wish I had just changed from a T34.48 and greens to a T34.63 and Siemans instead.
It just felt really lazy.

The thing with a t4 of you'll very rarely have to change it for anything bigger unless you go for stupid power.

I used to run my T4 on a standard engine with light blue injectors (would of been better with bigger injectors) on a 4x4 manifold was quite a tight fit but it worked and i never had any problems.

I thought that it drove really well was a tad laggy but i didnt think it was a noticable difference from my old universal turbo T38.

Just do it you will love it.

T34's can also come in with a bang matey ... get a good boost controller too My T34 running 1.8bar is good fun as its not laggy but still comes in hard

Think I'm going to go for it, just wandered if you could shed any light on a query about the wastgate/actuator location, I read on another thread that you can have problems running this on a 4x4 manifold, did you experience anything like this? Also, where dd you get the induction hose and what air filter were u running?
