because of the high price for fuel so many people have gone the diesel route
like me, but what do you miss most from previously owning a petrol?
this may sound stupid but i really miss the sound of a nice exhaust. the noise a decent petrol engine makes really adds to the whole driving experience. the penny dropped as on the commute home i was right behind a Ferrari (599) we are both plodding along in the traffic mine sounds like a tractor but his sounds glorious even just pootling along in the traffic
so going on from this i now have the stupid desire to get rid of the mega cheap to run diesel and buying another petrol
throwing money away? or worth the extra £10 a week i just can't make my mind up

I've owned diesels as a daily since i bought the cossie, but not long ago i bought a civic vti mb6, stonking car for the money, i loved it, went well, sounded well, did everything well, bar fuel economy, it wasn't long and i was back in a derv.

I used £15 a week diesel in my van, i used to use £40 petrol doing the same in my civic.
Had far more fun doing it though.

i do on average 100 miles a week and i think this is not enough to justify owning a diesel, i think my problem might also be the fact my diesel is a citroen and not a modern derv
but i need a estate for my dogs and also later this year hopefully something that can tow my kitcar to trackdays.
and petrol engined bmw tourings are just so dam cheap these days i am finding it hard to resist
my citroen ZX would prob still do a few more years and would tow the kitcar but the lure of the straight six is calling me

I personally hate diesels.
I had a Focus 1.8 TDDI Ghia a couple of years back which in itself was a nice car but I hated the engine with a passion! Sold it to buy my straight cut box for the cossie.
I drive a diesel van everyday and that pisses me off!
I'll never own another diesel!

We had a Leon Cupra and were using 40-50 quid a week in petrol. We now have a Focus Tdci and it only use's 20 quid. When i want to hear a nice exhaust note and go fast i get on the bike.
Don't really miss petrol TBH. Since i got the bike i've never been bothered about driving fast in the car. its just a way to get to work that's it really.

diesel bora tdi (170bhp) day to day for me, makes me appreciate my xr2 a lot more.
it pulls well though, so not even disappointing on performance. just the sound of "a skeleton having a wank in a biscuit tin" doesn't sound sporty at all.
better economy on fuel, even though i don't do mega miles, it's nice when i go out and get some on the clock, also holds it's value better than a petrol.
i can always take the xr2 out though, raw power and a real drivers car IMO.

Iv yet to try a black smoker that I like , the only two that came close to a nice drive was a golf and an old vaux inline six 2.8 pickup ,think at some point I will own a sports smoker .
much better, but clutch didn't last long till i had to replace it, i think it was on it's way before hand though.
I miss the rev limiter but seeing as my daily smoker is a remapped 535d I have plenty of power and torque.
Enjoy driving the misses focus st3 at weekends as its like a little go cart.
Couldn't warrant going to petrol as a daily with a 100 mile round trip to work each day!!!!

never owned one but probly will as a main car oneday, drove quite a few (mainly vans for work)
drove a fiat 500 1.3 diesel and was quite impressed, apart from from the nosie it didnt feel much different to a petrol, would consider trading in the sportka for a new diesel ka purely for running cost,

The only thing I miss is the noise. I can't ever see myself buying a petrol powered car again.
This is one of those anti-diesel myths that's been doing the rounds for years. They depreciate less, and cost less to run, they (often) cost less to tax and insure than their equivalent petrol so why do you need to be driving mega miles to make it worthwhile?

guy on the radio last week said you need to do at least 18,000 miles pa to justify the ownership of a diesel, still trying to work that one out...
Utter fucking nonsense. Those kind of figures only stack up if you compare two brand new cars, one derv, and one petrol where the derv costs more initially. Then add in main dealer servicing costs, and drive the cars until they're worth nothing. Then, and only then will the equation makes sense. But in the real world diesels are cheaper.
my series 2 rs turbo managed a 6.83 0-60 at ford fair and returns 34mpg town driving and only runs 182bhp. you must be running some serious power in your rst lol
i myself today have just gone and bought a petrol car a px my tdci in.
The garage an indepedant merc dealer has had an Audi TT on hi forecourt for a while now and i made him an offer that he didnt refuse.
I do about 6 miles a day so not too worried about fuel.

Dan feking loves black smokers lol ,I never been that keen on them myself but Im willing to change my mind on them , derv tec has come a long way and with a sport pipe they sound oddly good !
im thinking of turning to the durv side.i got a 99' focus 1.8 zetec and it drinks petrol like its going out of fashion.my dad has lent me his new shape audi tt 2.0tdi quattro.and the the mileage is great on it.i think the point it that everyone knows is that derv costs more but goes further.
ill try and get a pic up tomorrow

From a day to day point of view i would have a new TDI diesel anyday over a petrol there nice to drive good and fuel and have bags of torque.
Although i wouldn't want one to go blasting round the B roads. but as a daily for me the only down side to a modern diesel is the amount they cost when they go wrong.

im running an old non turbo l reg golf at the moment, everyone at my garage uses it during the day for running about and i do about 8 miles a day commuting to and from work and have only filled it up once and that was two weeks before christmas it still has quarter of a tank left, so what do i miss about using a petrol as my daily?
errr fuck all lol
errr fuck all lol
Since buying my first ever diesel the only thing I miss from all the petrol cars is when you floor it not leaving a trail of smoke, lol
However the 50-60mpg, £130 for 12months tax and the 300+lb/ft more than make up for a little smoke
