is 4x4 st possible?
hi all just out of interest has anyone done a 4x4 conversion to a focus st using the original engine if so what parts could be used and how difficult was it to do.
thinking maybe the drive train from the Kuga may fit well or even the original running gear from the volvo S70R to match the engine??
any info greatly appreciated.

Think you'll find Wolf have done this to the new Focus RS already, so should be nearly exactly same for the Focus ST.

hmmm interesting does the kuga have the 2.5 st engine fitted at all so should be pretty much a case of getting hold of the right brackets and drive train parts. sounds like a good recipe to me

there is a kit that bolts straight in using some couger parts from states but its not cheap other wise every fooker would do it lol

the wolf conversion is a custom dexler front diff with a transfer box, kuga prop, tank and rear axle. 10k all in and the rear wheels sit 20mm forward. i don't think we will see it done on a st in a hurry.
sounds great suprised not been done then. just need the running gear from a 4x4 kuga then cant imagine it been that hard to do and cant imagine it costing anywhere near 10k for the bits
i know it s kind of a dumb question but can you modify the transferbox to get only rear wheel drive (wihout 40% of the power wasted) cause that would be cool having a rwd focus witout cutting everywhere
As said above the Kuga drivetrain is used and if I remember correctly they used a drexxler differential.
Very expensive between 10-15k but no reason a budget build cant be done

Personally I think you would then need to add more power to compensate for the weight

what s the standard split on previous 4x4 fords ??? i.e sierra and escorts cossies
even the rs2000 had 40 front 60 rear split if i m not wrong but i just read it on a fan site so not so sure.........
when i was thinking about a 4x4 conversion on my old fiesta i was thinking to the rs2000 box but it s expensive and fragile so people directed me towards the jag x type transfer box and i think it s still 60% on the rear and the gearbox is a 6 speed......... can t the same thing be used for the focus??????
ps. i ended up selling everything as i werecked the fiesta
If you talking about a first gen reactive haldex unit then I would agree your better of with something else, as these require some slip to build up pressure, so not much use of the line which in a fwd is when you need it most, there will be pressure when on the move.
3rd and 4th gen units are instant, pretty sure the kuga uses a 3rd gen of course it will all depends on how the haldex controller is programmed so just using it as is from the kuga may not give the best performance results.
