In my opinion ( and purely that ).

Ring NMS and ask them.... they will most likely know who's engine it is and if you tell them will def know. Karl/Ollie will be able to advise properly and may even be able to put it all together for you............

Worth a call first.

I did ring them, not sure who i spoke to but they said they cant really help as i dont have enough information, they said they dont understand why the engine doesnt have a crank, i spoke to the seller and he said that they messed him around about something so he stopped paying for the engine, which means he didnt recieve the crank.

anyway thats a bit off subject, i thought id ask incase someone had used theres before, im just not all that clear on crank regrinding and polishing etc so i wasnt sure!

Thanks, Joe

surely its just a standard bottom end then, supplied with pistons rods etc

i dont really understand what makes is an 'NMS' bottom end IF there us no crank it cannot be assembled, therefor just a collection of parts and worth what the sum of their total costs on ebay would be?

Agreed. It's only an NMS bottom end if they actually built it.

Unless the rods are a peculiar spec or the block has been machined to accept a non standard crank then any 1600 CVH crank will be fine, with the correct size shells of course!

Ok thanks karlos..

And its painted in NMS colours, (generally a dark blue block) he also has the receipt for from NMS,

He just said " I collected it from them last summer. I don't have any dealings with them anymore after I had a CTS stage 2 gearbox delivered to them and they used it in their own car plus a lot of my old parts, which they allegedly lost or disposed of or used on their speedboat engine more like.
They don't sell parts of engines, I just wasn't giving them a penny more of my money after the way they treated me and several long standing customers"

Thanks, Joe

Mark King, possibly still has a full steel NMS bottom end for sale, worth firing him a PM.

Ok thanks nigel, ive got a crank from my current engine which i could get reground but i dont know anywhere that does it around my area..

And V-Man

Because i think its more of a challenge to run 300bhp on a cvh, yeah its alot of hassle along the way but thats fine..

Thanks, Joe

build a full zetec turbo...
16v head will get the turbo spooling quicker and can move the gasses alot quicker than a CVH...
a std zetec head is good for 450bhp

Common misconception, a ZVH has all the weak parts of the CVH (head, cam etc..) and replaces a bottom end good for 250bhp with another one thats good for about the same but that breaks gearbox's easier because of increased torque... Pointless! lol

I'd go zetec turbo

Buy a mk1 frs engine for a grand and the engine is done then with the money saved get nice manifolds and turbo

I don't understand why people think this.
My brother swaped from cvh to zvh and has been running 334bhp for a year now with no problems. hopefully going to up the power this year too.

how is a zetec bottom end worse than an old cvh

you can go 2.0ltr from a 1.6 so making more power with out over tuning

better oilways
better crank
stronger block

will last a hell of alot longer

easyer to check the oil level lol

yes i do agree with the head and cam being a week point still
but i only suggested a zvh as it still will look like a cvh with the 8 valve head rather than 16v

but the bottom end is much much stronger

and rod and pistons for them are just as cheap

Not to get in a long winded discussion about ZVH's as this has been covered many many times before but a Zetec bottom end in stock form is no stronger than a CVH, the pistons for example are actually weaker!
To wack a FRS or ST170 gearbox in requires custom drive shafts, custom mounts, cable change gear selector setup and a hydraulic clutch conversion which is a fair bit of work! lol
