Default A Ford question!!!!!!

...just bought an old 1997 transit duetto camper, it runs the 2.5TD engine currently on 59000 miles FSH etc, its 100ps apparently, is there a benefit in chipping it? Apparently the evochip gives another 20bhp, its not the extra power i hear i will get better fuel consumption. So:

1....Will it blow my engine up or shorten its life?

2....What can i expect MPG before/after chipping? (Fairly heavy van being a full camper)

tbh dont know much about these i would seek some expert advice or have a look for imfo on the net surely re mapping it for more break would increase fuel consumption

IMO, it's always worth remapping a TDi mate... it shouldn't blow your engine providing the standard components are all in good working order. If there is a problem (possibly unseen thus far) then increasing the output will highlight this quicker than it would have done as standard.

Regarding the MPG, I dunno what they do as standard but given an identical driving situation, I'd expect to see a 10-15% increase in mpg post remap.

Cheers,
Grant

I wouldn't necessarily expect increased MPG and performance at the same time - but you're likely to get like-for-like increased MPG, and the ability to have more 'grunt' up hills and such.

I'd say it's a no brainer in a modern diesel.

Well worth doing, from both a power and economy point of view.

So is it a case of the map running more efficient? Hence increased mpg? Of course flat out consumption will be worse.

Look into it before doing it. The old fella had the Mondeo st 155 done and is awesome. Was going to do the vw toureg v10 tdi but they suffer with turbo issues when chipped and is engine out job to change!

Can you remap or chip these? Thought they were mechanically injected and need to be tuned manualy?
