Default a-plan car insurance they are ripping me off!!

had car insured using monthly direct debits, sold car, being such a shit company you cannot get hold of them if you work,
so i cancelled direct debits and eventually got hold of them to tell them,(week later or so)
they wanted policy returned and proof of sale to save me getting unwanted charges, which was sent but they say never got it!
now they say im due them 2 months insurance when i never even had car.
they now threatening me with debt collectors,
they only open office hours and where i work i dont get mobile signal,
so just warning others so it doesnt happen to anyone else,
rant over,lol

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but this is pretty typical with smaller brokers and insurance company's. the DD you have set up isnt a standing order as such going direct to the insurers, in the conventional sense, only large insurers, direct line/tesco etc offer this.
when you needed to divide your payments up the company would have taken out a small loan in your name and then you are liable for the full amount until the end of the policy regardless of whether you keep the car or not.

i would have hoped a-plan would have explained this over the phone, and if they didnt then they have to answer for it.

if they offered to waive the charges for proof of sale, then i would follow up on that. anything important should be sent recorded delivery

hope this helps

Sorry mate but if you cant manage to get 5 mins and ask your boss if you could use there works phone then you are a bit silly

IMO its YOUR responsability to contact them and make sure they have sorted the issue by actually speaking to somone

just so you know not all of A-Plan is bad, there all seperate (in a sense) companies in each location,

The local A-plan to me (kidderminster & worcester) are very very good.

P.s the above were just examples of bad stuff that could happen.

I think they're a bit shit really. I had my car with them last year, had no accidents and got another years no claims so now on 8 years no claims with no fault accidents

The policy went up by £200!!!!!

Even a quick scan of confused showed me about 10 policies £150+ cheaper and A-Plan werent interested in even doing any kind of deal on my renewal note........totally crazy.

Insurance in general has gone up mate...

I recently got a renewal from Aviva and after searching and going through a broker I got it down £60 and ended up with the same company yet they would not budge on price when I got other quotes.

I change company/broker every year as seems the little hastle of phoning about works rather than just sticking with same company

As I said, it hasn't gone up by anything like the amount a-plan tried to get me to pay. A simple search showed me that! If they think putting £200 on a £400 policy will keep them in business then good luck to them, but it's not what I'm paying

People say insurance has gone up, l got my renewal quote through from Ashley and it went up 250 pounds, after explaining that l morally object to paying more seeing as l have never had a claim 7 years ncb etc l shopped around and got it 250 cheaper than my original price, so 700 pounds on an 07 RS4 unlimited milage and 3 points, fully comp with tracker through Adrian Flux, Keith Michaels were very competitive as well.

PaceWard never paid out a decent amount when l sold my Evo after 6 months of insurance they said l would get a figure and it was half that in the end give or take.

Shop around

Mike

that the way their policy works apparently.because it was so close to the end i wasnt due any back.but when i wanted to stop it over a year ago as the cars engine was it was 6 months into the poilcy and they wanted to charge me 350 which wouldve made it full term!
