Default Focus RS mk1 cutting out now and then. Any ideas?

Every now and then my Focus RS cuts out when stopping at lights, junctions etc. I clutch in and break and it appears to choke and cuts out. Not all the time but now and then.

What might case this?

It has a forge dump valve not sure what model.

I'd like to fit a standard recirculating one back on but had a look and it's not as easy as I thought, I've a front mount fitted "Airtec" and a K&N inducion so i'm not sure if I can refit the original with out undoing all the other stuff. The bleed hose is attached to the DV and the main house is also attached but the hose for redirecting the air into the air filter or airstream is the other side of the engine blanked by a plug.

This is the kit thats fitted: http://j-w-racing.co.uk/product.php/..._focus_rs_mk1_

might be better getting over to rsoc and asking on their mate, they can have idling issues if they have a dumpvalve fitted and its not a recirculating model! also the iscv can do the same, have you had any changes made to the car recently? as the car sometimes needs to learn what its idling point is, normally you disconnect the battery for about 30 mins then reconnect it start the car and turn everything on! lights aircon anything that draws a current and then wait 15mins and then take it for a spin and hopefully it should be ok!

Only bought the car so made no changes myself. Just been sticking off the small list of thinks to put right.

I'll discount the batt and do the other things you said and see what happens but I think I'll remove the Dump valve to be sure when I get a new original recirculating one. I was talking to a lad on rsoc by phone there and he is convinced its what is causing it. Had the same issues himself.

Thanks lads. I'll keep you posted.

my mate had a very similar problem, turned out it was his dump valve.

He also changed the TPS but dont think that cured it.

Does the DV dump to atmosphere or is it more or less silent? Unless it is leaking or it dumps to atmosphere it wouldn't be that.

It is atmospheric. Looks like its the issue. I have the batt disconnected at the minute so I'll stick it back on when I get a chance and run it for the 15 minutes with everything on then bring it for a short run. T see how I get on but I'll order a new recirculating valve today.

you may need to buy some additional pipework if your going back to the recuirc, as the atmos uses a different set up.

I bought the new forge recirculating valve and yeah I need a new boost pipe to fit it. Might need more. I'm looking into it at the minute.

Anyone any ideas as to what route to go with this.
