anothe rnew garage thread, :D
we're about to start digging the foundations out and will be laying the base and brick work in 2-3 weeks, what i was wondering is what floor paint have people used and recommend? the base is gonna be 11ft x 28ft. probably gonna be spilling the usual on it, oil, coolant, blood, sweat, beer, pizza, etc, any advice?
depends on your budget, if you have some extra cash and want to do it properly then i'd google a supplier of epoxy floor paints.
some of em you can get can withstand a fair amount of abuse! you can easily jack a car up and not lift the paint where steel jack wheels move about.

coolio, cheers dude, ill have a look into that,
and whilst im here i figured ill put up some pics of the progress so far. the plan is to bulid a 10ft x 30ft timber garage with a sloping flat roof (sloping from 8ft to 7ft). it'll have double barn doors at the front and smaller double doors at the side to allow for my bikes to come in n out without having to move the mk2 escort everytime and ive got a few double glazed windows to pop in too for some natural light. but of course we need a base 1st, so this is what we got done on the weekend just gone. (powered by fosters and a bbq
)
12ft x 32ft, didnt have to dig too far as we're making the garage the same height as the decking so i can step straight onto it for a beer after a few hours graft,
.
started at dinner time saturday and finished around 21:30

started to get a bit dark so out with the spot lights

jus about ready for the dolomite this weekend, the tipper van can get straight in and tip direct into the base, so no need for a load of barrowing, then the week after it'll be concrete time, yippee! ill pop up fresh pics as and when things get done, should be done and water tight by end of april bank holiday.

certainly will, hardcore down tomorrow and the mixamate in with 10t of ready mixed cement, actually cheaper than doin it myself,
saves the labour though, costs me a fortune in fosters and food, haha
so the 7.5T of dolomite arrived at dinner time and we started to lay it down.

the tire tracks were made by a 2.5t transit tipper, so it gives you an idea of the scale whens theres plenty of room down either side if it was parked inside

and this what the lads thought of me pissing off to take a better pic, haha

then a pair of tarpaulins to help keep it dry till next weeks 10T of ready mixed cement can be delivered, gonna be great.

gonna pop one of those thick plastic sheets to seperate the dolly and cement (notice the professional term " one of those thick plastic sheets", i know my shit, oh yes,
). the dolly was a straight Ł200 for 7.5t, the cement next week is rolling in at Ł98 per cubic metre, and i need 4.5ish for a 5 inch base, with vat and a little dumper thing (yet another professional term) its gonna be Ł550. so far im Ł300 over budget just on the base, haha, all the timbers ordered @ Ł1000 for 1/2 inch shiplap and a 3x2 frame, jus gotta pay for it, should have enough to do it all, hopefully.

here mate take a look here http://www.paints4u.com/productsByCa...goryID=238&p=1
i used the epoxy paint in my workshop and it is soo strong! really good paint well worth it. and i work out of my garage and it stands up to it, about 3 years on now and id say it could do with a coat or paint. i run my mechanics company out of hear bear in mind. and my fiesta is being built in there now all the welding etc etc.

, the timber is rollin at Ł900, the roof is gonna be 18mm chipboard, not ideal but due to the base i cant stretch to the treated plyboard, so just gonna clag a few tins of the felt glue all over, give it a good coating. then theres the hinges, roof felt, etc etc, i reckon in total its gonna cost around Ł2200ish? thats just to get the building up, water proofed and locked, then i want to insulate it all, plasterboard it, paint it etc, i think to get it totally finished, probs Ł2700ish, and thats for a 10ft x 30ft timber garage, the same size on the net is Ł3699 +vat + the base. so i think its gonna be worth it, reckon i might move in actually, hahaha.
jsu found a few of us actually tippin the cement, its going on top of 4 inches of compacted dolly, the cement is a minimum of 5 inch, deeper near the front where the car will be rollin in n out. the pics show how deep it was too.

just order 5 bags of cement, 1/2 of sand and 230 bricks to put the run down this weekend, then we'll see the true size of it, fingers crossed i aint fooked up on the size, haha.

Id recommend using that EPDM (im no builder either) my mums had a garage built similar size and they used the 18mm chipboard then a massive roll of this rubber membrane roof lining, its guaranteed for like 30 years, doesnt chip, crack, split, element proof, wont shrink etc, he was that chuffed with it hes using it on the extension theyre building, looks better and lasts longer then felt, and i think it was about Ł150 for a large roll. google it
thats the brick stage complete, little pallet turned up on sat morning...

which was 230 bricks and 5 bags of cement..

seein as im not a bricky of any description i felt pretty useless so was relegated to mixing and cookin the BBQ whilst the lads did the building for me

but we're well pleased with the end result...

so 2moro morning there will be 300mtrs of 3x2 gettin dropped on my front so we can start on the frame, naturally, i'll put more pics up as we go.

with the verticals in

then it all snow balled from there

Ł10 window off ebay in, bargain,

thats stiggerdarlo helping.(its that hot you can see actual steam coming out of his mouth, haha)

front end in

paths going to go under the over hang.

and the end result of 3 solid days work from me n my cousins, pretty much ready for the shiplap next week, very pleased considering none of us are actually builders/joiners etc. more pics to follow next weekend.
