Default 3 door tyre size

hi all
ive got some compomotive 5 spokes for my 3 door that im getting refurbed tommorow and was wondering what tyre size i could get away with on them they are 8x17's i dont want to do any trimming of the arch kit if possible or if not very little trimming, its been converted to 4wd so front and rear sizes will have to match, the wheels are et35 iirc its also got coilovers so i can set the hieght to suit
i was thinking 215/40/17 myself does anyone know if i can go wider?
cheers peeps

I used to have 235/35/17.
No scrubbing at all, plenty of grip too

really? never thought i could go that wide i had been told 225's may be ok
did you space your wheels out at all as im told they may "look" better spaced on the rear but tbh i want as much space for tyre as i can get!
how low did you run it?

Yep, had 10mm front spacers and 20mm rear spacers. Put them on to bring wheels to edge of arches. Had wheels on car for year or two, no problems at all

You were told crap then, I've seen at least 5 with 235 on and I can guarantee you not a single one was altered in any way at all.
The man that does my bodywork owns one, and has 235 with no modded arches either, although if he needed to of course that's no issue, why didn't he ?, it wasn't necessary!!
So with the right offset 235 no problem, I know 225/45 fit on my sapphy no problem as tried them, so using 225/45 front 235/45 rear, but don't suppose that helps as it's a 3 door.

If you need to run the same front and rear because of 4wd set up you will not get 235.40.17 under the front arches or you running different on the front, way have missed that bit?

Mine was 235 at the front, but the lower profile allowed them to fit along with the spax suspension
