hi peeps im havein problems with my fiesta at the min just came back from a 100 mile journey anthen got stuck in traffic in brum an the car over hearted the gage was on normal didnt read it was hot the fan doesnt seem to be kicking in iv jus changed the sensor on the side of the block under the coil pack the fan will work if you switch the engine off an put egnition on but not when its running if i take the switch of the sensor whilst running then replace the switch the fan will work when running but if you swithch it of an re start her the fan doesnt come on any help would be greatful thanks

i have exactly the same issue with my ford fiesta 2003.
The thing is i have noticed that when i take the fan wire or sensor out from the block near the gear box the fan which work really loud and fast but when i am stuck in traffic and stuff like that my fan would not kick in and water would start to create pressure and become steam from the bottle.
Can you please tell me how did you fix this ?

 

Im sure the fan is switched on buy the engine ecu. Rather you get a new ecu and get the keys coded to the ecu or you wire the fan up with a relay and have a switch inside.

does your car have air con?If It does,does the rad fan kick in when you switch the air con on.

Yes the car has aircon and whenever i turn the aircon on the fan kicks in and the car cools down.
The weird thing is when the car is bubbling or steaming from the topup bottle of the radiator, the temperature on the guage is normal and in the middle. It does not go over, but i know the car has heated up since i can see the steam and on top of that my heater in the car starts to burn my feet.

 

Change the cylinder head temp switch. It might be reading wrong so it is reporting that the engine is at normal temperature, which is why the gauge reads normal and the fan does not cut in. Don't attempt bridging it out or anything as the sensor does more than just turn the fan on and off.

 

What exactly do you call this cylinder head temp switch.
Since ive been looking and cant find a specific one.
I have 2003 ford fiesta not the one that looks really old but the that looks like 2005 and 2006

 

Take the air filter box off the top of the engine and you should find it between the middle 2 spark plugs!

Just gave everything a little bit of clean and wd40.
On the right side of the engine i saw a switch sort of thing above one of the pipes going inside the engine.
I took it off and the fan went crazy.
It kicked in fast and cooled the engine off but inside i got engine management light and the guage was looking crazy with arrows pointing everywhere and hot temp sign on.
