I'm thinking of fitting coilovers to my saff, I'm looking at an avo kit but need to know if I'll need to modify my rear arches as the replacement kit has the shock and spring together instead of seperatly as they are standard. I want to buy a bolt on kit I don't really want to have to start chopping the car up to fit them.

The inner wings on the rear with require a bit of relieving with a mallet otherwise springs will rub particularly on the near side

I bought some and had the same issue but refused to bash my car i bought a full set of konis and as i have no arb were no good so yesterday i reverted back to the original coilovers that came with the car when i bought it and they have a ball joint at the bottom which angels the whole coilover away from the body

 

I was thinking about it, but as above refuse to hit my car so konis and Ahmed springs for mine

I'm trying to sort the split rims but if they're going I'd be tempted!

 

Im thinking about geting some like pauls from nyrs but in 17s so would prob use the white car as trial to make sure they clear the brakes etc. You not had any luck eith the splits mate?

I just bought some comp splits and going to get centres made like Paula but in 30 bolt fitment to suit my comp rims

What sort of coilovers are they with the springs not seperate ?
As above a little relieving is often needed, done correctly, ie with paint stripper gun the paint doesn't even crack and you can't notice afterwards, but takes time/patience.
I'm not a bufty anyway, most on here due to their age will outlast their cars anyway so can't understand the reasoning behind not wanting to do certain things.

The kit I'm looking is an *Avo GTZ Coilover Road Suspension Kit it did say my vary from picture so they may come the same as the original setup

 

No they come as a damper with the spring mate thats the only way you can have adjustment.

Tabetha its just common sense dont bash your car

 

Not all kits have complete rear units, puntos are still separate and the height adjustment is made on the spring cup on the rear axle

 

Get coilovers, beat the fuck out of arches - Job Jobbed

 

I don't mind a little panel beating but I just wanted to make sure I didnt have to start grinding the arches or chopping the bodywork, I assume the top mountings will all be the same

You might find they don't rub. Mine don't but obviously others do

 

Just use a ball ended hammer and hit with another hammer, takes about 5 minutes.
The issue arises due to fords ability to make completely symetrical cars ha ha!!
