loud ticking noise
hi guys, having owned my motor for a week i think my problems have started, started off with a sticking starter motor that would leave me stranded just about everywere, fan stopped working, oil leak from turbo return, heaters stopped working, electric windows stopped all of the above have been sorted with either a fuse or replacement part.
as i said ive had my motor for a week done a nice 450miles with no running problems, had a oil leak from the turbo oil return pipe i replaced it and got a steam clean to get rid of the mess that was left behind, parked the car up overnight went to start it the following morning started fine warmed up oil light came on first a couple of flashes then stayed on parked the car up checkd oil level everything was fine, i have now replaced oil pressure switch and it seems ok, but while driving it seems to me like its misfireing but not on idle, also there is more of a ticking noise coming from the top end the engine was reasonably quiet before, could this be a sticking tappet? any help will be great cheers sam.

well to me it seems like steaming the engine has caused the rest of the probs maybe its all wet few days should be fine when properly dryed up but change the oil pump anyway as u dont want a fucke3d engine .. maybe aask the previous owner wehn the pump was changed

I personally would never steam clean a engine for this exact reason/problem.Wires could of got damp and moved around etc.Tappets, worn cam, lack of oil pressure, lack of oil can cause a top tick noise.See if you can wire up a pressure gauge to check if the oil pump working or not.
sorry guys should of said the first problems in my post werent down to the steam clean, the ticking noise started with the steam clean which i now regret if the oil pump has gone shouldnt the oil light be coming on now with the new switch? i havent got a oil pressure gauge to check, is there any other way i could check?

the oil light is working as it should with the new oil pressure switch, comes on with the ignition and it goes out once its started, before the light was staying on constantly once the engine was warm but went out when you revved the engine then back on when left to idle.
im 100% sure something is wrong or gone will take the rocker cover off and have a nose around in the morning.

I personally have not had a lifter stick and although people say CVH's can be tappy when the cam/lifters are worn I've had lobes wear down to almost being round and them still not tap because being hydraulic they self adjust, so long as you have good oil pressure of course.
Exactly as what karl said the light will go out when you first start it up because oil is thick because cold, with you saying it did it before when was warm sounds like an issue there to be assessed. When you rev it it could go out because pump is spinning faster. I would chack you have oil pressure first with a gauge. Then check top end cam ect.
cheers for the advice guys, looking back through the paperwork last night the engine was rebuilt 6years ago covering just over 11,000miles he did tell me he didnt drive it much as he had three other cars 6years is along time and as im going to be driving on a daily basis i dont want to risk anything, to be on the safe side im going to change the oil pump rang ford and got a price Ł207.17 inc vat is this guy serious?
after leaving me in confusion about later style pump and earlier style pump which would be the best one to get? also how hard is it to change the oil pump with the engine still in the car? the haynes manual covers it with the engine out of the car. also which is the best way to change the oil pump? cheers sam.

No point changing the oil pump if the bearings are worn. Take the sump off, and undo a main and big end to see what state the bearings are in. Sump needs to be off inorder for you to do the oil pump.
