Which parts would be advised NOT to solid mount or poly bush on a cosworth? I have a stripped out 2wd sapphire with an awful rattle from the transmission when off throttle between 3k and 2k revs, it sounds like the prop is smashing my gearbox to bits but it's instantly gone when on throttle. So basically where would you draw the line with poly bush, what should be left rubber and what's best solid mounted?
Someone once said to me don't polybushe the rear trail arms, heard a lot of people say that a 6 degree rear beam is the ultimate mod with regards to making the car handle 100 times better

i hope by solid mount you mean polybush and not an actual solid non bushed mount or that will be one shakey sierra that will do nowt but pop spotwelds one by one till the car falls apart around you lol!
No, rear beam needs solid mounts on the main bolts, stops the car wandering around the rear beam. Rear arms are rose jointed anyway if you have a six degree beam. Front TCA's are rose jointed, and compression struts take the place of the front ARB for a huge improvement in turn in & braking stability.
Engine mounts need to be rubberised items, Collins ones are very good, made by Lord who make aerospace spec stuff as used on the aircraft I work on. Rear diff hanger needs to be poly, from MSD/Rainbird/GGR- great improvemnt.
Coilovers will mount direct to the turrets, so removes the top mount bush as well...
This is how my Escort is set up, it is on stiff gravel 909 Billies, and is like a go-kart, no slack in the car anywhere at all, yet is compliant and not buzzy/harsh... Well worth the small increase in road noise, which is minimal compared to the straight cut box anyway!
But the rear beam & solid mounts transform any tired old cossie.

Well it's a stripped 12point caged seam welded shell, steel panels still.
Poly ARB front and rear
Rose jointed TCAs
Solid steering rack bushes
STD rubber steering joint and suspo top mounts
GpA chassis engine mounts
Vibratechnics gearbox mount
Poly exhaust mounts
Solid outer beam mounts
Poly inner and outer trailing arm bushes
Solid diff mount with rubber isolation on 9" studs
Poly mount rear AVOs
The diff mount needs changing as its far too harsh as do the front strut tops as they are failing. Poly or Rose joint front shock tops?
Oh and the car is used as my everyday commuter, has done drift days and is used hard every week and has done 1600 hard miles. It's HARSH!!!

deffo check the exhast mate, sounds exactly like mine only making the noise at 2-3k rpm. mine done it on acceleration and deceleration tho. but the pipe was swinging in the wind.
just check that the exhaust clamps are tight and its not hitting anywhere.
thats the first place i would start.

Solid minting the steering rack is a good way to go and now I see that they are doing poly versions of the steering coupling too, but on such an important bit of the car I'm not sure I'd entrust it to a poly item and would much rather get an actual metal uj in there somehow
