Rover 214 head gasket gone or something else?
A mates just told me his rover 214 has died, said that he noticed the heaters went cold and then lost all power and white smoke was coming from the exhaust. He managed to get it started and got home but its very reluctant to start now, but he said it sounds ok IF it starts, but obviously he hasnt kept trying to start it because he doesnt want to drive it until its sorted.
Does it sound like the head gasket? or maybe something else seeing as it doesnt sound like a bag of nails when its managed to fire up? i know they have problems with heads gaskets, maybe this one has never had a new one.

Yes,I'm afraid so fella, all the symptoms are there mate.their prone for it too,so don't be too surprised.
If it's a daily shed, new thermotwat and k seal fuck out of it otherwise it's a garage/new head job and gaskets etc.not really worth it on a £3-400 car.

Aparently, its down to the size of the coolant capacity and the radiator that lets the K series Rover engine down. It's the achillies heel, otherwise its a good engine
Basically it doesnt have enough coolant flowing round the system and this leads to head gasket failure. If you get a Rover, keep an eye on the coolant levels and religiously check every week.
Rover, the fools never put it right, all that was needed was a bigger radiator & coolant system!!. Buffoons!!
Tell your mate to bin it & get a decent 2nd hand cheap fiesta.......
Or, if he wants another Rover, tell him to buy a diesel, rover used proven Peugeot Diesels in the 200 series & after BMW took over, the diesel was the BMW unit (depending on the model). these engines never suffered the same way as the K-series engine
