does it pop out at any speed and revs? or when just giving it some? what was it like in YUM?

Just been readin up about mt75s and t5's, some t5s suffer with 2nd gear popping out, thats from the fork/sliders in the gearbox being worn.

The simplest thing i can think of is if the gear stick is being caught on the rubber boot and popping it out of gear

i havnt realy done any miles in it as ive only just put it back together. but it seems to be at lower revs and not realy under load. I havnt had a chance to try it under load as its not road legal yet.

There is no rubber boot on mine, infact, theres not alot of anything.

As far as i was told , it was fine in YUM and had a rebuild a couple of k before i got my grubby mits on it

lol im not driving 500 miles there and 500 back! the detent is the ball and spring mechanism that holds the selector rod in its position. unlikley to be that thou. bent or worn selector fork id say, or worn dogs on the 2nd gearset

does it pop out when slowing down and on downshifts like roundabouts ?

if so i would say fork based,,,,, just hamfist it into gear and carry on which is the cheeper SHORT TERM option

ps: dont take my advice,, im on gearbox number 3 this year

I couldnt tell you as i havnt realy driven it as it has no MOT or Tax.

Thinking about it, on the short run its had down the track to the farm, it popped on on boost aswell as light throttle up a slope. So its safe to say it does it as and when it wants too.

Thing is Brian, I havnt driven the car yet realy, let alone given it a hard time. And it was sold to me in good working order...... hence my concern.

I would be too bothered it I had broken it but I havnt even had the chance too lol

Yeah this is very true, it is easier to swallow the repair bill if you have done the damage yourself.

1 x 3rd Gear Pair

1 x Selector Fork

1 x Gate Plate

2 x Syncro rings

Ł1300

Ouch!

Was it on anything between Daves and yours?

Seemed fine in his when I went in it only a couple of weeks before he broke it.

Was it barra that you sent it back to for the work?

the box i had from barra did the exact same thing.....after his fooking overhaul it didnt work....

i called him and the fingerpointing started....to a point where i threatened him with legal action and guess what, barra the little shit backed down and let his bill go.

EXACT SAME THING m8....

barra is a little fooker who never stands by his mistakes, its always someone elses fault

and why ? becuase he cannot check the forks or just doesnt do it apparently when he puts the boxes together.

lesson learned, going elsewhere now.

contact mike rainbird as he dealt with my old box and the new one, he knows who can do them decently.

Not good, I'd assume you'll have zero chance of seeing any cash back though.. doesn't make it any better.

Nope, i bought it from him pretty much as soon as i found out the car was being broken. I had it sitting around for a while before i fitted it.

Michael, its not always that easy with legal threats when you arent the original purchaser and its now a couple of years old.

Your experience wasnt from buying a used secondhand one though, so he was in a different position with threats from you.

I know a few people who have used him and all been really happy (doug stirling for example) so I must admit im quite surprised to hear about yours (and this one)

Just goes to show that even a few good recomendations from people isnt always a guarentee!
