Certainly some damage there!

Although im sure Dave didnt know that as it definately worked fine in his car and its not like he stripped the box apart to look inside it so couldnt have known that.

No mate I dont remember that, only time ive seen your car was lieing under it at combe sorting out the rear suspension angles and the gears looked fine when you were on track, and at ford fair where it was just parked.

Didnt even know what type of box you had in it TBH mate!

It is a company, but how can he be held responsible for a second hand gearbox? You have to remember Daves car was running over 700Bhp, and used to drive it like an animal .. Its is only an uprated std box, they are NOT indestructable, and will always be an item that is subject to wear and tear, depending on how they are used... Second hand gearboxes are a risk, that is why they are cheaper than new gearboxes.

It is a shit situation, but having dealt with Dave twice in the past, I can only say he has been perfectly honest and upfront, and I can't see him deliberatly selling you a duff box.

will,

none of daves fault as he doesnt have xray eyes ....

but from dealing with barra i know this particular damage...he says stuff gets heat treated, etc etc and in all reality the stuff isnt any harder as it was when it came out of the cnc machine.

my box looked exactly the same, was even quoted over 2k for a repair on a brandnew box.

barras work is shite and he keeps fooling people, best make this thread a sticky.

Not good! I believe he changed the heat treatment process, but that might have just been for the mainshaft issue?

and to top it off my last email to bara :

Bara,

maybe i did not make myself 100% clear, let me rephrase :

the box was already broken when i got it. You repaired it under warranty and now it works.

As far as i am concerned this story is now dealt with by your warranty repair.

If you feel any different i suggest you seek legal advice cause i am not paying a single pennie for a repair of something that
wasnt right from beginning.

And please stop bothering everyone unless you want to loose your face entirely… You should be ashame of your workmanship,
but instead try to put the blame on a foreign customer…..what a lousy thing to do.

Not good news I never had any problems with my old Bara box but only did around 2000 miles on it then split the car.
I sold it to Loader off of here and it lay for around a year when Loader then fitted it to a car and gave me a shout to say it had started to jump out of gear and he thought a selector fork had gone . Dont know what the outcome of that was but I sent him some money towards a repair and never heard anymore so doubt it could have been asmuch damage/cost as here.

Im not blaming Bara for anything, so far they have only gone out of there way to help me.

And as much as i understand dave would not of seen the pitting on the gears, the not staying in second and the rattling may of given it away lol

This box was in full working order just ask mark shead as he was in the car the last time it got used then l strapped it to my trailer and home it went to be be broken for parts. Bara only had the box before for a check over. Looking at the pictures l really can see how yum was driving fine.

How do you know this is the part out of this gearbox?

Should i have a reason not to belive Bara then ?

Im not trying to point the finger at you Dave, just trying to get my head around how it could of happened. I thought the H gate may have broekn and cause the damage to the gears but they look like bad meshing from them pulling away from each other.Either way, you were not to know of that.

It rattled abit when i first put the box in and started it, but it slowly started to quieten down, i put it down to sitting there for around a year and all the oil draining down, plus i drained and changed the oil before fitting.

With regards to how noisey it was, i wasnt to know any different. I had always been told they were very noisey

You'd be hard pushed to notice in daves car with the fuel pumps etc, it was just a very generally noisey car.
There werent any noises that sounded like they were caused by that sort of damage though, was just the normal noises you expect with straight cut cogs anyway.

My Bara box was popping out of 3rd at low speed when i fitted it so took it for him to have a look at and was diagnosed with a bent selector fork which was an easy fix just a pain in the arse taking the thing out and putting back in again. hope you get it fixed.

You're owed cash back from Dave no question at all. It doesn't matter if he has x-ray eyes or not, he sold a box in working order, and it wasn't. Pictures prove that, I would be expecting money back, its clear he is in the wrong (albeit it unknowingly) if everything you have said is true.

Can definately understand your way of thinking there, but by the same token Dave in turn is owed cash back from Bara as the box wasnt upto the job he was sold it for.
The problem is the timescales, I bet if this had come to light straight away Dave would have been happy to go back to Barra with it and demand some money for the new owner, but its now such an old box he has no chance of doing that with any success.
Thats the problem with buying stuff and having it hanging around for a year sadly (not anything wrong as such on the part of the new owner, but its put dave in a position where he has no chance of getting the guy any money back as its been so long)

the problem i can see here emerging is that the people who originally bought Bara's 'uprated' gearbox took them and stuck massive HP through them,

they are not much better than the quaife big tooth, and we all know they're limits, seams that people have simply abused a box that was not designed to take massive hp. OP not included here,

I really feel for you, as you have bought something on someones word who really didnt know its condition, looking at them gears it would of been blatantly obvious to anyone who knows transmission whether it was in a noisey car or not.

bent selector fork was also 1 of the faults on my box.

honestly i would jump bara not dave.

i would even go as far as saying those pics are not from your box....

Said I wasnt going to get involved but hell with it,

Michael, don't take this the wrong way,,, but, that last post is shit frankly! That box in daves car had 700bhp through it, all we ever heard on here was how fast it did up here, what it does up brunters, videos of the full bore launches, the box was not designed for all that, if you went to bara and said I want a box for full on launches, top speed run and 600lbft he would sell you a FFD.

Its only the people who think, bollocks to 10k when his 3.5k boxes seem to last, I'll have one of them, as you found out! Now your trying another box, if you want to race that car you'll end with a FFD in it....

Unfortunately you did have problems, however it was put right, yes he tried to charge you, maybe a bit cheecky it was a new box! But at the end of the day it's a race car.

Go buy a turbo, say you done one track day come to do another and it died. You won't get anything! Its a race car! Similar circumstances.

Unfortunately the problems with that box are down to dave, it does not have anything to do with bara so theres two people that should be sorting it, dave and the OP!

Just my view on it, rip it apart!

Very true Jimbo in the case of the op's box ,but there seems to be a good few people posted on here that all have had the same problems and well within ther rated power for these boxes. I think Paul would of only had about 380 max.

i know its not the same value but i had a bara uprated diff from him and its been sent back twice and stripped/rebuilt . once was a leaky seal after a year and again due to noise and klunking 2 years on.. although it only did a few hundred miles he never tried to put me off or ask for money once..
