Neil, do you know what car Pauls box was in? Steven mckays car, with one of our 680/500 engines that got murder on tracks, killed at brunters and on the lanes of Ireland? Same situation!

Ps, don't see me here for defending bara, I'm just letting the truth be said so people can have a fair opinion!

jim,

not takin it the wrong way m8 but you obviously dont know the whole story as i dealt with ur father and you were not even working there yet afaik.

thing is that bara builds them poorly, says they are up to the task and they seem to fail on everybody in a simmilar fashion.

i see a pattern there but u know what, i couldnt care less as i sold it.

oh and to add that bit : bara claimed ur father didnt put oil in the box....nice, aint it ?

I think you will find I was working there, infact iirc, I fitted the box, changed the box, oh and changed the new box and fitted the lever

Either way, I know the problems you had, I know what bara said about it all, not the greatest I know, but at the end of the day, you got it resolved and its now going into a road car, I just don't think the comments were all that fair so had to stick my ore in lol

Neil, the box you had went into Altratzs car, via Loader. I cxan first hand vouch for the fact that it went into the car with new oil, and jumped out of gear everytime .. And I know you are not the sort of guy to sell junk as I have your 7.5" Gripper in the back of my escos ... Loader to be fair to him was a TOP TOP lad and paid the rebuilt cost, and my mate paid for the labour and consumables..

Seems the boxes are fine until they change cars ..

Wil do you know what the damage to that box was? I sent Loader some money towards the repair but never heard any more about it . If there had been any problems with the box in my car i would have put it away for repair and fitted one of my spare boxes.

Ps pm my your address as i have found the rebuild reciept for that diff.

Never knew that was Stevns old box so will take all that back , Im thinking of an uprated box for my car justnow but a rebuilt standard unit might be the way to go.

As has been said already, its the timescale. I would completely understand Dave not giving me anything towards its as its been ages since i actualy bought it, but the thing thats irritating me is it being in this condition and have never even made it onto a main road. plus being skint and being about to aford the rebuild lol

I think it broke the "uprated" main shaft (like porkies did too IIRC) and went back for a standard one instead, so was rebuilt then.

not being funny but wasnt the barra box given to SiB to test till distruction to prove just how good they are ? was it not also sold to dave with the same idea too ???

seems to me these are average uprated boxes with good things said about them by people who never owned one

thats alot of photos on a thread of dead boxes,,,,, from the same place and the BHP dont seem to be that major ect

the isue is with dave but timescales are another factor which is gona leace a bitter pill in someones mouth,,,, personally i would be outing the box as there is a STRONG chance you may have the same issue in 18months IMO

I think you will do well if lasts that long going off what has been said on here.

The gearkit rainbow sells may be a better option but then thats not going to solve the issue of the faulty box you currently have

An update for you all

Had the box done, fitted it, took it off, sold to a friend. Its popping out of third.

He spoke to Bara this week who told him it probably needed a selector fork .... Sound familiar ?

He took the box to Bara today and Bara told him it was repaired on a budget and that all the syncros need replacing...

Firstly, it was not repaired on a budget, he told me what was wrong and i paid it. Hardly a budget.

Secondly, he replaced 2 of my syncros and said the others were fine, so how after 80 odd easy miles ( with a slipping clutch ) can it need all new ones. Oh by the way, i doubt he has even opened the box yet as they dont work weekends

good fucking job SiB broke everything else on the car before the box had a chance to break,,,,,, id recomend fitting a 5 speed subaru box or a IB5 for reliabillity

I know James, Its Baz thats got it now and he drove up earlier. Im just pissed off that he is trying to sell stuff that isnt needed to Baz, either that or he lied to me.

As for saying it was on a budget, he wrote a list of what was needed and i paid it. If i had only asked for a couple of bits to be done then yes it would of been on a budget, but not when i paid for everything he listed as broken/damaged.

So not only have i taken a huge loss on this box, Baz is having to pay out more too .

Get your diff back James and find somewhere else

it looks like bara is making everyone look like a cunt.

certainly seems like dave is getting shit on here for something that the gearbox builder cant do right in the first instance, and then when it all goes to shit the last person to sell the box gets an awful lot of shit.

i would be giving bara boxes a massively wide birth.

Hard to believe Bara would pull a stunt like this its shocking! last time i heard they had a great reputation for building boxes etc do they not run them up to make sure there are no probs before leaving the workshop?
Dont think Barra himself builds the boxes isnt it Shaun?

just what i said in the beginning ...

- boxes are made from soft chocolate
- barra claims they are almost indestructible
- when they do go pop (usually right away) he blames everyone else
- barra still has not found a solution for the selector forks
- barra still puts unhardened or wrongly treated parts in
- he is still a lying cunt

nothing has changed, just someone else got fooked over this time

if i had another of those issues with barra he would get an unpleasant visit from a large person...

Alex, get the box back.
there is a decent place within a couple of miles of where me and Baz live that can give the box a once over, im sure ive mentioned the place to you and Terry in the past.

i really dont think Baz thinks you have lied to him, surely he can see that you have been tricked slightly.

was it not Barra that did the rebuild for you anyway?
surely you have the invoice of what was repaired and replaced?

but isnt the problem with the skyline idea that martoon only does the 10k conversion and if most people here spending 4k on a bara had 10k to spend on a box then they wouldnt be in this situation in the first place as theyd of bought something better.
