Check your security settings fella.I'm no expert but there's a way of bringing up what sites are ok and what are not.if the laptops updated at all then it may have altered your settings.
If it's a windows (Microsoft) based system then this wouldn't have surprised me in the least!!!

What do you mean by not go on some sites, "Internet Explorer could not display the web page" error etc?
Press the windows logo on keyboard and R simultaneously (Opens run dialog, something Vista/7 do not display by default), this will open a run program dialog box on the bottom left of the screen, type "cmd" without the speechmarks and hit enter.
This will open command prompt black background with white text. Type in here:
Ping google.com
It should come back with reply from then a number (IP address)
If you get stuck let me know as I can remote onto your PC and sort for you if needed?
Far more likely to be browser than connectivity but do the above to confirm first.

Well that means your computer can see it so it's a problem with the browser or something elsewhere, have you tried deleting the cache etc in IE?
I guess you are using IE, if so this is how, click "Tools" right hand side in Internet Explorer from the menu select "Internet Options"
Click delete in this window then leave the default options which are ticked and just click delete at the bottom, Restart IE, let us know how this goes...
