2wd cossie 6 speed gearbox
Anyone noticed how cheap the 6 speed boxes are for the M3, Lexus etc, loads not even getting a starting bid at £100, surely a good option for the cossie ?
Why's no one doing this ?

Thanks for the linkies james, I just put a load into my watch list on ebay, very very few sell even at £100 start, some even less, I'm willing to bet the beemer box, a ZF ?, I assume is a ace bit of kit.
The ones I looked at had seperate bellhousings, there's even a auto cossie box on at the mo from a sapphy, and a rebuilt std T5 at £1,550 starting bid wtf!!

g5 speeds are genrally known to be stronger than a 6 simply as your reducing the gear size to fit 6 into the same space as 5
bellhousings can be cut and re welded,
question is , is the box you plan to modify strong enough to go thru the hassle of modifying ,

The ZF ones are much larger over all however bells is intergral and splines differ these are more risky to use because most used ones from drifting era already nackered and rebuild cost similar to uprating the t5 or mt75. The ZF have a nice slick unnotchy change unlike Ford or Getrags. These boxes are much longer too and funnily gear lever lines up perfect in transmission tunned whereas Getrags have extra bracket to relocate gear lever backwards that also lines up as standard!
The ratio's of a T56 are just about ok for a decent V8. Unless you run a silly short diff, they would be very very tall for a 4 cyl engine.
Do they just add a transfer box to the back of the T56 or what to make it 4wd compatible ? Would be be able to handle decent power ?

Either ones i mentioned eariler can easily cope with the power and torque for decades without issue or internal modifications (as long as you start of with a good one)

yes they use a transfer case from the cyclone pickup so it can handle the power, i thing if u fine a good gearbox man its quite an easy job.
here are some pics of how its done http://home.comcast.net/~xr4x4ti/V8_AWD_Pictures.htm
