Default 1.8 Zetec Mk1, Sudden Loss of Power

The problem has been happening for a while now. If im ever in the situation where i need to overtake, i drop into 3rd and put the foot down. Halfway through the overtake the car loses power as if its choking or something.

Ive tried cleaning the MAF, ive put injector cleaner through multiple times but its no better. Ive reset the ecu and let it learn again but no joy. Some times it idles high and when driving if i put it out of gear the revs stay up.

Sometimes after doing a right hand u turn, or going roud a roudabout, it will lose power too.

The car also seems slow for a 1.8, it struggles to get to 100mph (on private roads) and it wont go any higher.

120k miles but its been serviced regularly, and regular oil changes and filter changes.

Any help appreciated

Apart from the bit about going around a roundabout / U turns it sounds like an ignition issue (coil pack, leads, plugs).

when i fitted the My 1.8 ZTEK in my MK1 Escort i had similar problems. Exaust flow was not correct (defect lambda) and fule pressure was to low when excellerating (put in a new fuel pump and filter).

And now it runs ok

i have the same problem with my 1600 zetec escort! changed coil, plugs, leads, MAF, and even checked the cat! after some tips from pf and a quick call to a local ford specialist, all signs lead to a faulty lambda! when the lambda goes down it messes with the air to fuel mixture and drops the voltage at the injectors, thus causing lack of power. got a sensor off ebay for £15. well worth a try before spending mega money on diagnostics!!!
