As danneth and Stevie says, VLC player is the one.

I also find the sound is better on VLC aswell, plus you have an option to sync if the dodgy dvd's are out of sync.

I just started playing on youtube instead while browsing the net. I put all my music on an external HD and its never plugged in to the laptop.

Thing is though, if his computer is having issues then no amount of different players will fix these.

Do you use www.ccleaner.com?

Try that, then a defragment of your hard drive, should speed things up a bit!

Rich I ran Ccleaner, defragged and ran as few programmes as possible. Doing as Ive just said above sorted it though. Apparently a lot of people suffered with the same problem after one of the windows updates. I think it only happens to Vista users.
