Also some guys 04 plate mondy was in for a mot, and nearly fell off my seat when the kwik fit guy phoned the guy up and quoted him £620 for work, not sure if it needed it or what but he got the go ahead to do it, when he put phone down he gave the thumbs up to the guy out in the garage, the big cheesers they had on the was unreal!!

Hate those cunts.years ago my mother had a brand new automatic mk3 fiesta which I got her on the voucher. She took it to have tyres fitted as they ate them on the inside.they took the tyres off and said she needed new brakes on the front, which she didn't as I'd changed them 3months before.

Now being auto,it did munch brakes as you've not got much engine braking.

She said thanks for the advice but my son will change them as he works in ford where they make the discs and he gets the pads for 50% with his card.

They point blank refused to let her leave, told her she was driving an illegal death trap and that if he let her leave he'd be breaking the law?WTF!!now my old girl may have been 60 odd at the time, but she's not stupid and didn't have the money anyway,so she said no,politely.manager walked off, told the boys to start stripping the front brakes as she wasn't able to leave if they weren't replaced.

My old girls no slouch so told them not to do it,and she's only paying for the tyres.manager still tells them to carry on,which they did,my old girl starts kicking off, screaming and shouting and he concedes it ain't happening,to which he threatens to phone the police to report her driving an unsafe vehicle.

When she went in,she asked for an offer of two front tyres for £30,took the coupon with her etc.guy tried charging her £30 per tyre plus valve, balancing, and environmental disposal of tyre giving a grand total of about £80.

She refused to pay and asked to use the phone to call me,when they refused she tried leaving to use a payphone, where the manager tried to physically stop her.my old girls as strong as on ox so she grabbed his arm and pushed him out of her way,he lost his balance and fell into some tyres, the boys in the workshop were wetting themselves apparently!!

He eventually agreed to only charge £30 for two tyres plus all the other shit which cost her about £60 all in all.

I phoned head office and wiped the floor with them and they did apologise and refunded my old girl the money for tyres but what a bunch of cunts!!

Bloke I work with used the one near us as his wiper arm mechanism broke, he only used them as he is with the AA and has this cover which he can claim upto £500.

When he went to pick the car up they wanted to charge £355 + VAT, turned out the part was £55 and the rest labour.

The AA wouldn't pay and he ended up getting the price down to £140 + VAT.

Got told on Bonus month the Manager picked up £5k before tax? No wonder with them prices

i remember when me and my mate took his pug 205 into the local kwik shit to have 1 tyre changed because of a slow puncture.

The bloke who served us said the front pads were low and needed chaning as they were dangerous. my mate had only had them changed a few weeks before. When i said "bollox, show me" he said some bullshit about customers not allowed in the workshop and then got in a huff

he knew he had been caught out and didnt speak to us after that and got some spotty 17 year old to finish the transaction

robbing barstards!!!!!!!

I used to work for kwik fit a few years ago and its right what someone said there is pressue from the top but the centres i worked in never ripped anyone off so i dont think people can say that they are all a bunch of rip off cunts.

Im not saying that every kwikfit dosen't rip people off because we have just seen on the tv that some of them do but there are alot of kwikfits in this country.

My best mate works there and some fo the sotries you hear are unbelievable. well, actually, not after i've read some of the above.

i cant name places and names but i know of people who deliberatly puncture tyres and say they're unrepairable to keep them for their own cars, as stated above they fit parts that just aren't needed, if you go in with a mobility car they'll leave it 2 hours without even looking at it as they dont get comission for fixing those, if they fit brake parts they "legally" have to test them so they'll take it out on their lunchbreak and go joyriding, one guy scuffed a car pulling off a ramp so he washed it and made sure it was wet when the owner picked it up so he wouldn'tg notice until later.

they're absolute monkeys, conmen and cowboys and i wouldn't trust them to change a fiver for my busfair.

I popped into the local one on the way into work the other day - focus st rear pads.

Me in my shirt and tie -

Yes sir that'll be £80 ( actual cost for me to do it was £18 including buying a rewing tool and it took ME an hour and half in the rain on my steep hill of a drive way with a halfords socket set. )

But sir if the discs (which are ok) have been grinding then we'll have to do those as well.

Oh right and how much is that?

£250

Its ok - you need not check.

That my dears is a RIP OFF

I dont think that £80 is that bad, they do have to charge for labour otherwise they would be working for free.

How much would the dealers charge for a set of pads fitted?

The pads are £13.99 to me as a punter - how much are they trade?

Thats a lot of fuckin labour for something which will take a 'trained' (note not skilled) mechanic with the right tools 45mins tops to do.

My hour and a half included going and buying the caliper rewind tool from the local spares shop.

£40 would have been resonable ( baring in mind they wanted the car all day ) and £50 for a drive in/out service.

Robdogs, years back I took an xr3i in for a brake pipe, had came straight from the mot station over the road with this as the ONLY fault.

After they had it on the ramp for over an hour they came over and said I need a full replacement of all brake pipes and load sensors and wanted £350.

They said cash or cheque or do you want finance!! I told them bollocks, get the car off the ramp i am off.

Drove to a mates place, £3.50 bit of pipe and she was all sorted.

Everyone I've gone to have been fooking useless!

I changed the tca's and steering rack on my series 2 a few years back and couldn't wait until Monday to do the tracking myself so nipped in to get it done. The first one said that as the car is lowered, it would be absolutely impossible to do as there is no adjustability!! WTF!!!

Went to another one and they agreed to do it. 2 hours and 4 attempts for them to get it right (steering wheel nowhere near straight and more lock on one side than the other) later, I asked for my money back as I'd do it properly myself on Monday. They refused to refund me so I parked the car back on the ramp, locked it up and sat in the waiting room. After a while they gave in, gave me a refund and told me never to come back!! As if I would anyway!!

Another time at a different one, I'd just changed the rear shocks on my S2 and noticed I needed a pair of rear tyres so nipped in to get a couple fitted.

After a while the geezer came in to me and informed me that I needed new rear shocks as they were very badly worn and leaking!!

I just said to him something along the lines of 'that's well strange, I put 2 brand new ones on there yesterday!' He then turned round and said 'erm....well I suppose they'll be ok for a little bit longer!!!!' Fucking right they will!!

I've never taken a car back to them, even for a puncture!!

Kwik Fit Statement regarding BBC Watchdog

“We take the allegations made by Watchdog extremely seriously and are examining them in detail, conducting our own investigations and interviewing our staff.

“While we seriously dispute several of the factual and technical points made by Watchdog, we accept that in some areas we have not lived up to the high standards that we set ourselves and apologise to any customers who feel let down. We are putting into place a robust plan to ensure that we address the issues raised.

“Our company policy on recommending unnecessary work is very clear; we operate a zero tolerance policy and any proven cases result in disciplinary action. We provide written guidelines to our staff to help them to diagnose problems and advise customers accurately and consistently.

“Kwik Fit serves over 4 million customers every year with a customer satisfaction rating of 97%. Furthermore our internal customer research shows that 9 out of 10 customers will happily return to Kwik Fit for an MOT and Service. In both cases our constant focus is how to get this to 100%.

“Our staff are actively incentivised to provide high levels of customer service and compliance. Staff compensation depends on performance achieved in our own mystery shopping programme.

“We accept that in the cases highlighted some things were not done as they should have been, and we are putting a number of measures in place to address this. These include:

An immediate doubling of our own ongoing independent mystery shopping programme
Increasing our consistent commitment to training by the additional investment of £1m
Further supervisory quality checks on all services carried out at our centres
Face to face meetings with all centre managers and service technicians.
“We will not rest in our efforts to maintain the high standards we set for ourselves.”

In more detail

We are investigating in detail the allegations made in the Watchdog programme. Whilst we seriously dispute several of the findings in the programme and have some concerns regarding the methodology of the independent engineer we are aware that there are some areas where Kwik Fit and our people have failed to live up to the high standards that we expect. We are disappointed in this and apologise to any customers who feel let down by our actions. We are taking these issues extremely seriously and have put in place a robust plan to ensure that there is no repetition.

We are currently conducting a full internal review of the allegations made in the programme and whilst we are grateful for the feedback the BBC has provided so far we are disappointed with their refusal to allow access to the vehicles and paperwork so we can complete this task to the extent that we would wish. We feel the portrayal of Kwik Fit in the programme was not as balanced as it could be and did not take into account the considerable amount of accurate work that is carried out every day by our skilled people.

Our company policy on recommending unnecessary work is very clear; we operate a zero tolerance policy and proven cases result in disciplinary action. Making recommendations to customers involves judgement and we provide written guidelines to our staff to help them to diagnose and advise customers accurately and consistently.

Addressing specifically the items mentioned in the programme. The 10 vehicles sent in for servicing were subject to 1,100 checks by Kwik Fit. Watchdog has challenges which we believe may be valid on less than 5% of these checks. In addition we made 32 recommendations for further work on these vehicles which were mostly older, higher mileage vehicles with no prior service records. Watchdog has challenged 2 of these recommendations. We are unable to review these 2 challenges as access to the vehicles has not been allowed. Whilst we accept that some of the challenges above may be valid and are disappointed with our performance on these items we are keen to emphasise that the vast majority of our work was not challenged.

Each year we survey a substantial number of customers by telephone to establish their level of satisfaction with their recent visit to one of our centres. Our satisfaction score so far this year is over 97%, an impressive figure we think in a challenging industry. We have also sent out over 40,000 questionnaires so far this year to Kwik Fit MOT and Service customers – 9 out of 10 say that they would be happy to return to us. Whilst we are working to improve these figures, it nonetheless confirms that the vast majority of our customers are happy with the service levels they receive from Kwik Fit.

We at Kwik Fit pride ourselves on living up to our core values, of honesty, transparency, value for money, accessibility and convenience. We acknowledge that the programme highlighted that some things were not done as they should have been and we commit to redoubling our efforts to ensure that we maintain the high standards we set for ourselves.

there latest trick up our way is with the mobility cars,

they come in for a check and whether the car needs it or not . its "sir you need the four tyres replaced, but don't worry your mobility plan covers it"

the four perfectly legal tyres are taken off and sold to a garage down the road who sells part-worns.

to be fair, my local one is ok with me as i put a lot of business their way in the shape of tyres for the vans (we had one van that had tyres in 2 weeks ) but as i sit in the waiting room i hear some figures which really make me cringe

in saing that thogh, they've knocked off around 40% of their price for stuff for me and i get tyres changed on the car for free if i've bough them elsewhere etc

My dads mate was a Manger at one for years but left in the end with stress as he was under so much pressure to hit targets. They used to target elderly people mainly as they would never argue that they didn't need parts like tyres, discs and pads. Wrong really.

But then again, alot of main dealers are no better. Brother was telling me about a month ago that an old bloke had moved from Worcester to Hereford so was going to be using my brothers garage instead of the Nissan main dealer at Worcester. When my brother serviced his car he couldn't believe how cheap it was and said are you sure the rear brakes are fine, the last garage always replace them, every year with my service? My brother couldn't believe the old bloke does 8,000 miles a year and they replaced the rear discs and pads at every service! Well they billed him for it anyway.
