can anyone help im having a bit of a problem at the moment i have a 1.4 escort cl but it says on the logbook 1.4 gti which is wierd lol but now the problem begins i had it insured with directline last year who said it was a 1.4 gti and now its time to renew every insurance company is now saying it is a 1.8 gti and want to make me pay nearly £3000 for the year
does anyone now how i can get this sorted? any help much appreciated

look at the engine and see if its twincam or single cam, single cam is 1.4 twin cam will be 1.8, they didnt make a 1.4 gti so if its a 1.4 register it on the insurance as a 1.4cl, other then that you might have a dodge logbook or sumthing so match the vin number up with the logbook on the car check its the same, if its 1.8 then best update your logbook, someone might have previously registered it as being 1.4 on the logbook to make out to insurers its a smaller engine hence making the insurance cheaper
Thames Valley area dealers sold 1.4 and 1.6 "GTi" models in 96 and 97 as a way of shifting some poverty spec models before the proper GTi was released, so yes there are cars logged as 1.4 GTi

the engine is deffinetly 1.4 just a single cam cvh was thinkin of checkin the vin on the logbook against the vin on the car and im sure somewhere on the car it got a sticker saying its from essex is there any way of getting through to the insurers that it is a 1.4?
does your car have all the gti extras? half leather seats side skirts spats etc? if it was me id just say it was a escort 1.4 cl if thats the only option or a just a 1.4 escort to the insurers as no insurers had listed a 1.4 escort osprey when i had mine, but if you have a crash they might try to say you have added the seats etc and moded it, that is if you have the gti specs, otherwise you need to get on the fone to the insurers and talk to them about resoving it
