Default What brake disc's and pad's for a 3 dr cossie ?

Hi all,

I am thinking of upgrading my discs and pads on my 3dr.

I am not sure what discs to get. Should I get a grooved, vented or a combination? I think i will get Ferrodo 2500 pads. Are these good

I was looking at these discs. But not the pads.

Are the discs any good?

Any grooving or drilling is going to help, a lot in the braking dept, as decent pads will.
Personally I'd go with EBC redstuff ceramic, or even yellows I use yellows myself, work perfect from cold absolutely silent, even though I take the anti rattle shim material off the back of the pads with all mine, never a squeak.
I have brand new DS2500 pads with my 6 pots I just bought, were part of the deal, just ordered yellowstuff to replace them, as I like them loads better.
Best find a pad that you like, as everyone likes a different thing hate Ds and thier lack of feel, wheras EBC you can feel everything that's happening, my last set of yellows are 25,000 mile and still shed loads of meat on my std 4 pots, same discs as well.

Just go for grooved, drilled ones crack, and the dipples i don't see the point off as there is no route of escape of the trapped gasses between pad and disk.

DS2500 are very good thats why lots of AP kits come with them.

Sorry to hijack the thread, but does has anyone bought some of the grooved / vented discs off e bay, around £70 a pair. They aren't any well known brand but look the same. Just wondered what the difference could be.

Not a lot tbh, I use el cheapo discs, about £40 a pair, and drill them myself, they do the job, don't seem particularly warp prone.
Micro cracking is very normal, in the past I've had discs split, but have now found the knack of where to drill, never had a split one since.
Pad material is a lot more important, and correct bedding in, as the pad deposits some of it's material onto the disc to start with.
EBC come with a break in coating that works phenominally well, can use just as normal straight away whilst the coating preps the disc surface.
AP are no doubt supplied with DS2500 pads, as they gave the best deal on a bulk order, nothing more!!
Ebc yellowstuff and bluestuff are police approved for it's repsonse cars, and used almost exclusively, not a single DS pad is.

I am not sure really if to use the standard ones or upgrade the calipers.

Are there any major benefits to upgrading the calipers?

Depends what kind of driver you are, if you are not having any issues with fade etc, or wnat to lose as much weight as poss, alloy ones are MUCH lighter than the cast 2wd 4 pots, alloy ones do dissipate the heat a lot better as well better than cast that don't shed heat well.
I'm sure a lot change just for the name, there's a moron round here with massive ap's discs and 6 pots on a 1.1 fiesta!!, rolling on 19" rims spent shed loads on the body stuff as well.

Cheers everyone . Much appreciated.

I will get myself some decent grooved discs and some EBC yellowstuff pads.
I might keep the standard calipers for the time been.

Cheers
