Have you tried some of the comparison sites? Some of the prices quoted might not be final (in that some of them don't apply when you actually try to take out a policy), but you're bound to find something cheaper I'd think. Definitely shop around.

Try Keith Michaels as well. They are specialist insurers. I'm sure they take into account your no claims and prior experience on performance cars more than the numpty insurers do.

http://www.keithmichaels.co.uk/

Maybe ask if one of their sales staff specialises in Ford in particular, because Gary Moulson that works there (if you check out the 'Contact Us' section of the site) specialises in Subarus and will get you a better quote than the rest, taking into account mods, etc. I'm sure another sales guy specialises in high powered Nissans, etc, so it may be the case that one of them could give you a better quote for a Cosworth.

The basic premium will have gone up due to the state of the Country, claims made in your postcode area, age range and or vehicle group.
The increase will have been mainly offset by the reduction due to increased NCB and or age.

The first car I insured cost me 50 pence (actually 10 shillings) my current car costs £240.

Percentage wise I think my increase is greater than yours.

i always use the rs owners insurance boncaster free track day insurance and stage 3 3 door valued at 9000 under £300 ltd miles to 3000. Just changed to a saff stage 3 valued it for 6000 and its gone down to about £200 i think. The other rs owners insurance hastings i think there not bad too.

The free track day insurance part seems very good i thought insurance companys were very wary of covering for on track.

Always move around mate as they think your lazy and make silly offers which if u don't update they just go with, their trying it on like they all do.ring everyone you can think of,back of autotrader is a good source and avoid local brokers as they only want to rip you off.their middle men and therefore are taking a profit off you.as said direct line do a very good service,I know cos I'm in the bodywork game so we deal with a lot of them.under no circumstances whatsoever use fortis as they are the biggest bunch of cunts I've ever dealt with in my entire life, they owe my company nearly £5000 in storage charges and I know a few garages,us included that will not do work for them as they are so bad at paying out.Unfortunatley unbeknown to me aa were underwritten by them on my house insurance.we had a problem with our drains at home and Reading thru the policy it said that as we had raw sewerage pumping up thru the downstairs shower therefore meaning we couldn't use any toilets and could only run one tap in the utility room. we would be put up in a hotel as per our policy documents until the works were finished, only a day or so.aa agree so we leave it to them to arrange and book the local hotel, not taking the piss but say £70 per night job,as were on our way out of the house fortis phone, your not covered,it's a mistake on your policy documentation.we explain that we have no means of toilet and they say " go outside or ask your neighbour".how does fuck off sound effectively!!my mate then has a burst water tank in the loft of a house he's unofficially renting out with no insurance, insures it at 10am and lo and behold the next weekend he comes home to find it flooded and now he's being put up in a £125 p/night hotel as the whole house is fucked!!believe he's with direct line so not a bad overall choice.

this gets crazier, i did a online comparison site just for being curious and got quoted between £1,186 to £11,555 has the world gone mad, i maybe only be 25 but i have a company car that i do 50k a year in, 7 years personal no claims, no accidents, no points and all i want to do is insure my escort for under a grand!

Tried Boncaster earlier they want me to ring them back in a few weeks closer to my renewal.

Makes me think about selling the car!

A month!!! I pay less than that per year!!

The 25 thing is a myth, don't know why people think it's some magical age where you insurance halves.

Adrian flux are the cheapest i have found.

This a page on StrikeEngine that has links to companies claiming to specialise in performance car insurance. A lot of them have been mentioned already in this thread but there is a few that haven't, I hope it helps

'Go compare' 'Go compare'

'When in a flap to save some cash go compare'

I'm with boncaster and have been for most of the 9 years that I've owned the car, went with flux for 1 year but then went back to boncaster

as for the coment of the track day cover it is free for RSOC organised events BUT you have to pay the first 1k for any claim if you mash up out on track
