Ok girlfriend wants something more practical as her Mini is a total joke if you need to carry anything in the boot or transport more than two people in it... she's looked at and driven a couple of 2006/2007 Mazda 6 models with the 2.0D engine.

Are there any known issues? How likely is the car to suffer from these? ...anything else people could suggest for around 7k at a dealer which is reliable, economical and a little different from a hum-drum billy basic Mondeo or Vectra??

The Mazda 6 TD is a great car and you'll get a good one in that price range, they're all chain driven. Try and get a TS2 which will come with the bose sound system which is imo the best standard fit stereo on a car of its class.

No known major issues with them but the DPF filters are fucking dear [£1500 from Mazda] so, going against normal convention, if they've got a few more miles on than you'd expect for the year, they are likely to be more than ok.

Don't worry if the car has no service book/history. You should be able to get a printout/record of all Mazdas after [off the top of my head] June 2005 from any Mazda dealer. As you're looking at cars about 4 years old, most people service at a main dealer until the 3 year warranty period is up so there shouldn't be much of a gap.

We sell alot of Mazdas and they're the least troublesome and least warranty claims out of everything, including Toyotas, Lexus and Hondas.

servicing can get very expensive! i'm 90% sure they have a timing belt though? and i think the injectors need to be re-shimmed every 60k or something random!

lovely car to drive though. try and get one thats just had the major service!

i've just gone from a mini to a mazda 6 ts 2.0 (petrol though). The boot is huge, bigger than my old passat and bigger than mondeos and vectras too so its very practical.

I absolutely love the car, so nice to drive and it handles exceptionaly well even compared with the mini.

The titanium effect trim is smart.

I'd definitly recommend one.

I'm sure you're right! For some reason I was thinking of the 2.0 petrol.

Good motors, come in some wicked colours too.we had one in not so long ago and it was a gorgeous gunmetal colour.drove it back to owner and it went well,if a little boring inside.Passat/a4 are cracking cars but you'd probably have to either step back a few years or up the miles to get an equivalent motor.seat cupra/leon are nice and cheap enough.

Thanks guys, still sounds like a go-er from the feedback I've had so far... when is the major service due on these?? Also, are the service intervals every 12k miles? What about prices for parts (brakes, bushes, exhaust... wear and tear etc) for this car??

Its a 2007 TS Hatchback that she's looking at. Its also finished in a Gunmetal Metallic that reacts really well in the sun, is very slightly higher mileage for the year but the price reflects this and she doesnt do massive mileage at the moment so it should even itself out over time as she plans to keep this next car for a while.

Out of interest, do these respond well to a remap? Its a slightly irrelevant question if she drives it 99% of the time... but depending on how much I end up driving it, could be something which I might look into.

Grant

Default Mazda 6

I have one of these with 182,000 on the clock, goes like a train. I get 45mpg no proble. As said earlier the TS2 (which I have) has the Bose sound system which is great. The only thing you need to check for is rust on the rear wheel arch lip. Mazda will sort this though if it has been checked periodically by a Mazda dealer.
