Default A&G Motors (Wakefield) - Timewasting scum

Hi,

I've been on the hunt for a daily driver for a while now. Spotted one I liked on Auto Trader on Monday advertised by A&G Motors in Wakefield. Phoned up about it and spoke to a guy called Andy.

I told him how interested I was in buying the car and that I had the full cash amount waiting, and asked him how soon I could come down to see it (with a view to buying). The earliest that suited him was apparantly tomorrow (ie Saturday), despite my offering to come down the day after my phone call (ie this Tuesday past), and also stating that I could come down any day this week.

So we agreed that I'd come down on Saturday to see and buy it because that suited him best. I phoned him again on Tuesday to get details for the HPI check and arrange my insurance, and once again confirmed that I would definitely buy the car if it was as described. He asked me to phone him tonight to confirm that I was still coming down tomorrow.

So as he requested, I have just phoned him, only to be told "Sorry, i've just sold the car to someone else today". So despite my paying for the full HPI, arranging insurance and agreeing to buy the car he's gone and sold it to someone else on a day that apparantly didn't suit him for me to come and view the car .

I understand that money talks, and that from his point of view there was a chance I might not have turned up tomorrow, which is fair enough. However, what pisses me off is that I could have easily gone down on any day this week to buy it, but it supposidly didn't suit him :w all:

Couldn't you have just turned up and had a look at the car on the forecourt? Or was it strictly viewing by appointment only?

Just summed it up well, timewasters account for 90% of the buyers out there unfortunatley!!I had a guy down before who came and drove my cav v6 for an hour, jacked it up to check all the lower arms had been changed,I'd already had it hpi'd so he phoned up to double check, rang his missus to say he wanted it etc etc.begged me to keep it til 6pm when his mrs finished work as she had the cash,it was only a Ł600 car.reluctantly I agreed, asked him for a deposit but he said he why as he'd be down at 6 to buy it.off he went, had a phonecall 2 mins later asking if the car was for sale ,assumed it was his mate checking up and told them it was sold, lost both sales as the little prick never came back.I'm not saying your a timewaster as you weren't but maybe this guy could sell the car on finance where he'd get a commission or maybe some idiot came in with a nice px that he robbed them on,it does happen mate, but it's not nice on either side!!!

Jay-Kay - I wanted to, but viewing was strictly by appointment only. Now I know why

rstdave - the more I think about it, you're totally correct. He wanted me to phone him tonight after 6pm (ie after time of closing at 5pm). It must have been because he had a viewing lined up today, and wanted me to phone after it. Really pisses me off that pricks like him think its ok to piss people around like this, both in terms of time and money.

Csm - still got the Golf, but want to keep it mint - so the plan is to get a daily driver for when im working in Aberdeen. The car checked out 100% ok, spent ages checking MOT history, phoned the BMW garage it was serviced in, HPI, the lot! I'm just trying to think, fuck him, better that i spend my money else where now, and just as well I never made the trip down there tomorrow to find the car had gone.

vaughant - I do understand where you are coming from, but what pisses me off is the need for him to be so devious about it. Why not be honest and say, "I've got someone lined up for a viewing on Friday, if it falls through you are welcome to come and see it on Saturday". Had he been honest and said that then I'd have no problem with it - rather than him decieving me.

Stevie - I was close, but knew if I started I wouldn't have stopped. Phoned using my parents number and didn't want anything coming back about it which would have brought them into it.

Viewing was strictly by appointment only - now I know why! Even if i'd chosen to turn up, his business is convieniently registered at his home address where the cars are not stored, so I had no idea where he had the car.

I might give Jay a shout , but will now have to leave it until after my holiday. Wanted a car before going on holiday, as when I come back I really didn't have enough time to buy a car and move up to Aberdeen before my new job starts

Hi fellas. This is a quick visit and I probably won't be back again after this post.

I won't say who I am, but just joined up to say to Agar the op that he had a very lucky escape and that the seller is committing a criminal offence in the way he is selling cars and is under investigation.
There is no forecourt to visit either.

Although I said I probably won't visit this site again, I will come back with the outcome to give, not just Agar, but you all, the satisfaction of what happens.

I have noted that you paid out good money for some vehicle checks to be done Agar and if there is the chance we can help you recover that outlay, I will be in touch.

Good luck gentlemen and enjoy your forum.

Hi, and very many thanks for your reply, whoever you are?!

I didn't notice your reply until this evening - so apologies for my very delayed response. By the sounds of things I had a lucky escape, which I am very thankful for now.

I would be interested to hear the outcome of the investigation, if thats possible.

Many thanks,

Agar

You've clearly either failed to grasp the whole point of my annoyance, or you work for A&G - I think its the latter. In which case please pass on my regards to Andy - I think he'll need all the help he can get since he is now being investigated. I hope he can sleep ok at night

I never said I had an issue with any car dealer selling a car to the first person who turns up with cash for it (see quote from my original post below). I'd do exactly the same had it been me selling the car.

I understand that money talks, and that from his point of view there was a chance I might not have turned up tomorrow, which is fair enough. However, what pisses me off is that I could have easily gone down on any day this week to buy it, but it supposidly didn't suit him
What I wouldn't do to someone looking to buy a car I'd advertised, is lie to them. For example, by telling them they can't come and view the car until the following weekend, because I was apparantly not available during the week. The purpose of this lie being to hide the fact that a potential buyer has already been lined up. Thus, misleading the '2nd in reserve' prospective buyer to believe that they will be the very first person to view the car once the seller becomes "available" again at the weekend. Had I known I was "2nd in reserve" there is no way I would have gone to the hassle of arranging insurance and paying for a full HPI check. My mistake was obviously taking his word as gospel.

I could have easily been down to view the car, several days before the Saturday I agreed to view it with Andy. But it was left until Sat because he was "not available" on Wed-Fri of that week. But then someone he sells the car to someone of the Fri he was apparantly not available.

P.S. - I've noticed that if you type "A&G Motors Wakefield" into Google, this thread and it's title is 4th from the top of the page, and clearly visible - which is nice!

Having had a think about your post above, it has three major flaws, in my mind indicating that you are definitely someone who works at A&G Motors. It was pretty obvious all along who you were, but just to prove it, I'll explain how you've really just shown yourself up:

1. You say:

70 percent of people who book to view a car eather dont show up or do not buy
This sounds very much like you are speaking from personal experience - i.e. you are a saleman/scumbag (delete as appropriate ) who works for them, and knows from experience that 70% of people don't show up to view cars after phoning about them. Given the way that you conduct your business affairs, I'm actually surprised that percentage isn't even higher.

You're obviously too ignorant to realise that you've got yourself into your own vicious circle, and are the ones fueling the problem. If you didn't lie to prospective customers, then perhaps more people might actually show up to view your cars. Instead, you decide to lie to innocent prospective customers.

2. You are very quick to sing the praises of A&G Motors; giving them a 10/10. However, surely anyone in their right mind couldn't claim this about any company which is under investigation for a criminal offence

3. If you were actually someone who bought a car from A&G Motors, are you telling me, after reading this thread (containing not just my own problems with them, but Windor's more serious issue too) that you would honestly go to all the effort of signing up to defend them?

If I were the "happy customer" you are pretending to be, and had come on here and read Windor's comment about them being investigated, I think I'd be pretty worried and would be asking more questions about the investigation to see if the car I purchased off them was involved in the offence.
