Default minibus licence?

I've been looking into buying and owning a 9 seater or 16 seater ford transit minibus.

Is it correct that I can run on it on a standard full uk car licence,?

Its purely for social personal use, not for business.

if you passed your driving test before 1st jan 1997 you can drive a mini bus up to a max of 17 seats incl driver seat on your licence. but aslong as its for social use. if you passed your test after this date you need to do a pcv test.

if u dont have a d1 on the back of your licence then u cannot drive a vehicle with more then 8 seats if u do then u can drive one with between 9 and 16 but not for hire and reward as this will come into tacho/operators licence or permit territory

iv just checked my notes from when i did my pcv licence and you can drive a mini bus up to 9 seats incl driver on a normal licence and you have been driving for more than 2 years and are over 21 and also the mini bus is not over 30 years old.
for 10-17 seats need to have passed before 1997 or hold a D1 cat on licence, for 17+ seats need a full D cat.

NO.

YOU can drive with up to 16 passenger seats, providing you are over 21, held a full licence for 2 years and the minibus isn't over the weight limit;

http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring...ons/DG_4022619

It dosent state that on the dvla site odd that but at the end of the day on the side of the road after the police have pulled u they will go on the catagories on the back of your licence and if you dont have a d1 then they will say you cannot drive with over 8 seats as it states in the dvla licenceing catagories
