Default Question about Wheel offsets *Help needed please*

Ok. I have a Fiesta ST. Currently has the standard alloys, which are 17x7 with an ET52.5 or something, and I also have a set of 12.5mm axle spacers on the rear already too.

Basically, I'm looking at another set of wheels, which are Available in ET45 or ET38.

I was wondering a couple of things.. Rather than go for just 17x7, could I fit 17x7.5? and if so what ET would I need? If not, what ET would be best with the 17.7?

I really cannot understand how all this works, and I've sat playing with an "offset calc" on some website..

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I am in the same boat mate, all along i have been interested in a set of 9 x 18 comp MO,s in ET20, they will fit the escos purfectly but now i have come accross a set of 9.5 x 18 wheels that i can get custom drilled, what i need to know now is what would be the best off set for these, I have changed my mind (maybe) coz i mcan get these wheels made here in OZ so they may turn out cheeper than getting from the UK.

Plus i just want the widest wheels i can fit on it, i was told that you can fit 10 inch to the rear of the escos in ET30 with very small mods to the inner arch so hopefully 9.5 will fit as well. i think the drama is at the front with the strur spring cup.

No problem^^, just hope someone is available at some time to shed some light.

I'm completely lost.

There have been 2 escos' on here that have had 10" rears, Dave who owned/owns YUM, and Martin Hadland of Reyland. Might be worth trying to get hold of them?

Yes mate i have talked to them, they have given me all the info i need to get the 10,s on the back, but on closer inspection when i looked at screemins car with ET30 (this was the size i was going for ) as you dont have to flare out the rear arch. The centre of the wheel looked odd in comparison to the front, where the 4 wheel bolts go, If you get my meaning, I know its a small thing but i want to get it right first time. i cant be doing with changing my mind all the time, living in OZ its just too far, and its not like i could sell them on to anyone.

Tony - order them with 20 offset and then machine them as needed. Sure you know the right people in Oz.

Hi Lincoln nice to here from you. Yes mate i think if i go for them i will do somthing like that, cos its easy to machine it off than add it on. Im still working away just not overseas anymore. any luck on the 6 degree beam? would it be easier for me to send my stuff over to you? would you mind if i text you later as im in work. the way i read it(and i may be wrong)

if you go et45 and have a half inch to spare from your tyre to the arch at the moment,then there should be enough room.

the + offset is pushing the wheel in,the - offset is out.

so you have +52 with a 12mm spacer so effectively a +40 offset.
(with a 7" rim)

if you put a 7.5" rim on with et 45 wheel, it will push the wheel in 5mm and add 20mm to the outer.

if you put a 7.5" rim on with et 38 it will add another 7mm to the outer on top of the 20mm said above.(you would need 27mm clearence at the moment).

caliper clearence on the front may also come into it so bare this in mind when choosing spoke design.

if i get flamed and am wrong here then i'm sure it will be for the greater good of your thread mate.

You also need to take into consideration what tyres you're fitting. A set of 215/40x17 Pirellis will be different to a set of 215/40x17 Toyos for example, as different tyres have different 'shoulders' and there can be a surprising amount of variation.

A lot of the time when fitting bigger wheels with a different offset it's a bit 'suck it and see'. What I'd do if I were you would be to put up a post on a Fiesta forum and ask to see what offsets/sizes/tyres they're running.

Haha thanks! I've been told to go for ET38, although this means they "can" possibly rub the arches.. Possibly going tonhave to have a rethink on wheels now!
