Question Ford focus 1.6 Zetec SE..... what can i do?? HEHE

I have a 2001 1.6 Zetec SE MK1 Focus. I know these are not the fastest cars ever and but i love my little car!!! I would like to get some more power out of it to give IT and me a little treat!!

To start with, i am going to get the following as they are relatively cheap:
K&N Induction kit
FSE Boost valve
Denso iridium spark plugs
Magnecore ignition leads

When i got some spare money that the wife dont know about:
Exaust - Mongoose P/N FDS021-16
Piper 4-2-1 Exaust manifold
Bluefin P/N BF05-FORD-N

and finally when i win the lottery or get a divorce :
Active technology throttle bodies
Piper Camshafts P/N FOC16BP270

I am not a mechanic but am quite technically minded and have played with some engines doing maintenance and part changes etc... i will be looking to do most of the work myself apart from things where a ramp is needed etc!

My car is bog standard at the moment and i dont want to mess around with engine replacements etc... but i do want to put my personal stamp on it.... I dont mind spending a little money, even it is seems like a waste as i plan to keep the car for a while yet....

QUESTIONS:
I DONT WANT TO HAVE A REALLY LOUD EXAUST.... does anyone know how i could increase power but still keep the noise down??

Does anyone know of any other mods i can do on the cheap that are not listed above?

Cheers for reading and any replies in advance!

Jon

For the 1.6 SE, I would get a set of ShawSpeed SS4 cams, not really that well known on here, but over on ZSOC.com there are alot of people with them, me included.

My 1.6 SE is running these, a set of Jenvey DTH ITB's and a few other tweeks saw 166bhp on the rollers, not bad for a 1.6 eh?

Drop over onto ZSOC and have a read on there.

Miltek 4-2-1 + cat-back, SS4's, jenveys, decent map, Uprated bottom end bolts, possibly uprated valve springs (unsure on this, Wardy, is yours running HD valve springs?)

Valve springs needed if you're running SS4's and ITBs with rev limit of 8000rpm.

With SS4's, do you need to go as high as 8,000rpm?

Although need more cold air going to the K&N filter as it doesnt like this hot weather too much... no problems driving but can tell the difference when driving in the middle of the day while its hot compared with the night when its cooler!

I contemplated bluefin, but as I plan to get mani/SS4's etc. in the near future, decided against it, instead I'm going to get a management system mapped for ss4's.

i do plan on getting the ss4's but my budget/wife wont allow me to just yet!! :-(

Gonna do Miltek 4-2-1 cat back exhaust next to sort out the breathing of the car and then go for the cams & Rolling road remap late this year sometime.

Throttle bodies look good but way too technical (TB's themselve, management etc) for me so would need to pay someone to fit whihc would cost alot! :-(

no need for an inlet, standard is good for 150bhp+ so you won't see any difference. Standard inlet or ITB's TBH.

You will see a difference with the FRP inlet but for the price I wouldn't bother.

Getting power isn't cheap unfortunatly, you would be better dropping in a bigger engine into the focus and spending the money on that!
