Default Cosworth engine grinding noise (with video)

Bought the saph a few months ago and had it sat under a sheet since. Had a slight noise to the engine but this all pointed to the cambelt tensioner.
So finally this week got round to fitting new head gasket, bolts, belts, tensioner etc. got it running today and its still making the noise. and whats worse is theres now a grinding noise!

when the head was off we could see it was on its last skim as it was at the level of the bottom of thermostat housing. but this was all level, cams/valves looked good so we just bolted it all back on.

the noise sounds like its def coming from the head, and when you listen to the vid you'll hear both noises. the squeaky grinding noise, and the locomotive train like noise lol. niether of these i can locate or tell whats causing it!

anyone experienced this before?

Any help and advice would be appreciated

tensioner isn't too tight? try running engine without the alternator/steering belts running to see if noise still there! is the bottom crank bolt tight? take the boost pipe off the front of the turbo and look how the compressor wheel moves while it's ticking over(have had one that made a similar kind of noise)

I have heard that squeaking noise b4 but cant remember what it was it was something silly ie loose/worn iirc!

cheers for the response mate.

belts def not too tight. tried running it without other belts and no change.

have ordered up some cam bearings as this seems to be the only logical thing it could

That noise sounds like a dry bearing noise, , but with water pump and alternator not being driven after removing belts doesn't leave a lot, hard from vid to hear where the noise is coming from, my first thought with the noise would have been water pump inner seal gone allowing water to wash out the bearing grease.
Another thing you could check but I doubt is the dizzy shaft, the top bush picks up and sticks to the dizzy shaft causing serious wear in the dizzy, I always replace these with bronze bearings for this reason.

Luckily you did it in time, could have been a bit costly otherwise!!

Alright mate luckily just noticed this thread again!

For 2 bearings it was about £25 inc. postage from piero at xpower. hes your man if you need cossie engine bits. i'll give you his number if you want.
2wd and 4wd heads are different tho say make sure you know what yours is.

As for fitting my mate did it for me whilst i was at work so couldnt really say wat labour charges would be if a garage did it. would take less than an hour tho id assume
