Hi folks
I now its been done to death (probably) but I was wondering how easy it is to fit larger speakers in the pods in the rear of a cabriolet? Something like 6x9's. And what do I need to watch out for like the clearance behind the speakers when the roof is being used regulary?
Any pics would also be appreciated
Thank you.

you can get 13cm in there and also 6x9's but like you said you have to watch for rear clearance against your roof frame...
mine had 6x9's in when i bought it years ago i got new pannels and fitted 13cm's then i got fed up of lookin none standerd in there so am now back to standers with no speakers fitted and a blank where there should be a sterio lol!

If your rear panels are un-cut try and swop with someone who has cut ones as un-cut panels are not easy to find. I also have 6.5 inch speakers in, and they look nice. Clearence shouldnt be a problem on this size, but as said you wont get good sound really in a cabriolet

May I ask why?
So what's a good speaker to have? Both size and quality?
Un-cut? The pods I have seem to house the original speakers. SO one big hole in middle and 4 small holes around edge for the screws to go in and fix to the speakers. I may be wrong though

Its hard to get good sound in a cabby because its an accoustic nightmare. noisey when driving and almost hopeless with roof down. although with some playing around you can get it to work well enough. Im running 6.5" 3 way rear speakes in cut panels, 5" 2 ways up front which need spacers to fit, and a single 12" sub with 300 watt amp. I have bass with the hood down and it doesnt sound too bad. As for speaker brand, its personal choice really

You do realise uncut mint rear speaker pods go for decent money. I paid Ł60 on ebay a few years back for a set because I specifically wanted a mint set.
Best thing to do with a cabriolet is do what I did. Just fit a set of good quality component speakers in the front and totally disconnect the rear ones.

I have a 12" sub in box to go in boot, but got no wireing yet and tbh its not an important job as the car is still an on going project
lol
So what is the original size speaker to fit in the hole?
I like componant speakers. I had all seperate ones in my old Saxo then 2 10" subs and it sounded very nice. But that was then.

off top of my head I think they are 10cm ones if anyone can confirm it. Been a year since I been out to my cabriolet. Ought to get my arse into gear and fetch her out again seeing all these cabs about now.....
But yea what you did in your saxo sounds good. Though You wont get an awfull lot of bass due to being no roof...

Can you tell me if the speaker covers are supposed to match up with the holes from speakers?
What I mean is the holes in the pods where the speakers go through, are they supposed to match up so they can be screwed in together? If you know what I mean?
