Hi Everybody,
I am just about to fit a new cambelt to my S1 which I have just fitted Cosworth Management. I have a few questions about timing the engine………
Sorry for the slightly confusing questions?
Cheers

I am just about to fit a new cambelt to my S1 which I have just fitted Cosworth Management. I have a few questions about timing the engine………
- I have put the crank to TDC and my pick up wheel has the notch directly under the crank sensor, happy days.
- I am beginning to position the camshaft. I spoken to Karl at NMS and he said that I need to fit the Cam to TDC with No.1 compressed. Last night I removed the rocker cover and spun the Cam and I was struggling to understand how I make sure that get this right. Do both the exhaust and inlet valves have to be seated?
- Also, my pick up ring on the Cam Pulley has 2 notches on it which are to be positioned at 30 degrees and a further 90 degrees before TDC. But I have noticed in the Ford Manual that I should turn the cam 12 degrees BTDC when timing the car up to get the advance. So do I have to set the 2 notch markings from TDC or the 12 degrees BTDC?
Sorry for the slightly confusing questions?
Cheers

don't think about the 12 degrees fella, thats ignition advance not cam advance.
as for the rest very confussing, the cam should be at full inlet lift (lobe fully down on follower) at around 112degrees after the crank has been at TDC

The reason why I am getting confused about the TDC issue is that to me if I put the pulley to the TDC Mark that should be ok?
Karl just confused me saying that the car could be 180 degrees out Cylinder 4 firing not 1, so my TDC could be 180 degrees around?

I thought that would be the right way. I suppose that Karl may have assumed I may have had a no-standard pulley.
Thanks for the help, really appreciate it!
