Default Why should this happen?

I've come to accept that my Cossie 4x4 uses a bit of oil, mostly when I use the boost, but while I was doing some work on it over a period of a week ( I had removed the heat shield from the turbo, I was too lazy to put it back on) and still driving it everyday, the oil consumption STOPPED. So put the heat shield back on and oil consumption RETURNS. Does the turbo run hotter with the shield on?

Doesn't make any sense that really. Couldn't see the heat shield making the exhaust or turbo any hotter in reality.

As said there is no reasoning to it, the turbo dosen't use oil it's the engine that burns it unless you have a worn turbo, unless it was a different driving style and did you cover the same distance? It's actually dangerous to drive without the heat shield as being so close to the flammable brake fluid which is why Ford fitted one.

I can't explain it either, yes it is LHD, so I have the shield off now for another week and it looks as if the oil consumption has stopped again. I did notice when the shield was on and I looked under the hood one day, the turbo was glowing cherry red hot, but this may be normal.
