As said there is no reasoning to it, the turbo dosen't use oil it's the engine that burns it unless you have a worn turbo, unless it was a different driving style and did you cover the same distance? It's actually dangerous to drive without the heat shield as being so close to the flammable brake fluid which is why Ford fitted one.
