can anyone shed any light on me temp issue, i was out in my cossie tnt (down ace cafe) when i noticed it seems to be running constantly above halfway even when driving at speed and the fans are coming on alot while im moving, this also happened last nite when i was out in it, the radiator is an airtec aluminium thing. any ideas??? it was ok before.

engine has not long been rebuilt, low comp, running on greys, i dont know what headgasket it has but it doesnt use a drop of coolant and there is no excess pressure in headertank.

 

Mine runs higher than that m8 without any issuses.

Fans will come on when if its hot, might have a sticky thermostat or something simple.

 

is the guage faulty? just a thought. if the fans are cutting in and out as normal then all should be ok. could be possible gauge fault. try another set of clocks?

 

I would of thought air lock or dodgy thermostat , check if heater gets hot .

 

are both fans coming in? if only 1 comes in then it may not be man enough

 

Std ford gauge problem most likely, just let it idle for 1/2 hour, will soon see if there is a cooling problem, fans should cycle on and off as needed, but good point mentioned if only one is working will be on a lot longer.
Make sure also the de gas pipe(highest pipe/turbo return) is nice clear, it will self bleed perfectly.

both fans are fine and and the turbo pipe is clear, i think im gona fit a 82degree thermostat and a new fan switch, and also give the rad a flush

You can get a thermo switch from MSD to use with alloy rads, try that

82C stat will do exactly jack shit, but if wanted a QH one can be had for around Ł3, boggo std fit on millions of cars.
Why people think a 6C difference in running temps will avoid problems is a laugh, I know some people even think it will prtect your head gasket better as well, complete bollocks.
My fan comes in at 95C and goes off at 92C(aftermarket ecu fan control), even 100 or 105C will cause NO problems to engine, boost kills hg's not temps of around 100C
All a 82C will do is give you a worse heater.

Fans should not be on while moving, the purpose they serve is to cool when there is insufficient natural air flow which happens when at a standstill. Standard fan switch is fine on standard rad but it can suffer Heatsink effect with alloy rads as such as said MSD sell an "Uprated" one it's actually from another car, this closes at 92C hence fans on and off at 88C so few degrees span, where as the standard closes at 86C and opens at 77C and so the reason why the fans stay on for while!

As said thermostat will do nothing. I once had a problem with mine could not work it out fans stayed on all the time and was running hot, eventually figured it was my tired engine burning so much lubricant was the reason for hot running but probably not your problem.

The fact it runs hotter than usual shows the fans to be doing there job so new switch won't solve anything they rarely give trouble anyway more the OEM loom does.

I would check to make sure coolant circulation is ok.

The fans will be on whenever there is insuffecient air flow to keep cool, this will certainly be the case when driving if they have only just come on due to a stoppage and heat build up, mine can take up to 1 mile to go off after start driving again, if you have the wind deflector plate between the std rad and intercooler, this can easily be 10 miles!!, and yes I know this as I have a fan light, as well as it being recorded, first thing I did with std 4wd i/cooler was rip off the deflector, when needing the coolest air through the cooler you will be going fast enough anyway!!

"Fans should not be on when moving they should only come on when there is insufficent airflow" is what I said, they should NOT be on at any other time, even with the standard huge span I do not find mine a problem and the only time they activate is when stationary and then for a couple of minutes maximum, never have mine stayed on for a mile!

Given if they have just come on and you then move off they will obviously still be on.

well went to ace cafe in the cossie last nite and temp was fluctuating around half way, got on m1 to go 5 jcts to watford and come off slip road and come to stop at roundabout and the fans were on
they went off quite soon and the temp flew down, untill you start driving again.

 

just to let everyone know sorted the problem, fitted a msd fan switch (uprated one) courtesy of kitchen devil
and the temp is cool , no fans on when i come to stop. happy days
