Default Inlet manifolds for Zetec turbos, why frst?

just been thinking, why is it most commenly the frst inlet that is used on a ZT??

whats wrong with the alloy one, and the later plastic style ones???

is it simply cos the zetec injectors are poo, and with the frst inlet you can use different injectors?

cheers adam, but finding a rover inlet is a mission in itself...

oranoco, the rs1800 inlet it the alloy over the top jobby as found on all early zetecs.

but decent ie end fed injectors dont fit directly.

although for my throttle body conversion i have made a custom fuel rail to use cossie injectors on a zetec inlet

well, basically i had the idea of doing a cheap as poss ZT not worried if it goes bang either, just to see really if it will work!!

instead of using a decomp plate i would get the pistons skimmed 1mm, yes i know everyone says it wont be reliable/shit

but how many peeps have actually tried it??

not many i bet!!

is 1mm enough tho?

cant remeber if its 1mm for zvh and 2mm for zt??

anyway, i can prolly get all the machine work done just want to know why the alloy zetec inlet is not used?

Mainly due to the fuel rail mate .

Be a good little project that bud.....I used 1mm machined pistons (7.8:1) in my old ZVH. I'd rather have machind pistons anyday over a spacer plate, at least you have propper sealing between head and block then!.

If you need any help mate, jus shout PS. is it a 1.8 or 2ltr?

yeah, will skim them not use decomp plate

prolly do a 1.8 mate as they are easy to get and piss cheap.

no doubt ill catch you on msn mate at some point.

also the fuel rail i made to use cossie injectors on mine for the tb's wasnt hard....

1mm = 9.2:1
2mm = 8.5:1

Calculated. Measured may vary

that means 2.1 tho dont it??

i just want to see what a stock engine is capable of with skimmed pistons.

fed up of peeps who have not done it saying it wont last 5 mins, fair enough, if it does go bang i would have prooved it.

and as i said, im not worried if it does.

just as an experiment

not quite sure of the thinking here....

skimming pistons... they potentially take the lot out...

decomp plate or copper gasket perhaps... it fails..... erm??... shouldn't do owt.

what richm and tony pastie did seemed to be effective for 200+bhp and relatively cheaply.

how hard is it to put the FRST fuel rail onto the zetec?? as ive got a 1.8 zetec doing fook all at the mo and a more than enough spare FRST bits and pieces!! hmm

its not difficult. remove zetec injector rail and injectors etc. u have to machine out the holes where the injectors go as the frst fuel rail puts injectors in at a slight angle. u then have to weld a couple o brackets on to inlet to fix rail onto.

Dan, IMO you are going to need to find 2mm minimum - have a look at how thick the standard CAST piston is and then see if you really fancy taking that much off..
Fair play to you for wanting to actually try stuff to find out what it ACTUALLY does though

What are peoples EXPERIENCES of decompression plate failure? seriously, I'm interested in real experience, not pub talk..

mrviper - nice work with the Cav rail!!

there fine with a 1.8 but 2 litre are wider so break a bit easyer i have been told your ok for 200bhp if you get the car properly setup so its not runing lean/geting too hot

also been told no problem with 10psi

i bought a decompression plate but went for pistons so i could run shed loads of boost and rag it around a track

so if you want a 2.0 decomp plate drop me a pm

IMO the FRST inlet works perfect!

I have seen the VERY BAD conversion plates for the zetec which made me make my own for this car.

Once you have a FRST/EFi inlet most other componets are industry standard fittment (ish)
