Default bit of a shock today

on my industrial estate there are a few garages-we all get on with each other and help out-borrow things etc....

the one next to mine is the longest established on there and has been owned by a guy called billy.- ive known him for many years....he is only 44(4 years older than me).he collapsed a couple of days ago with a suspected stroke and found out he died this morning........
its really shook me up as im rapidly approaching 40 and i would have said he was a lot fitter than me,although he did smoke and drink a lot.....

also another guy who used to work for him dropped dead on saturday-aged 50

decent fellas and no age to die

rip billy and keith

i laid some flowers outside his unit today and am not looking forward to going in tomorrow.

Sorry to hear this. RIP! Why not try and make what good you can out of it and use this to motivate you to get fit? Maybe aim to do a something excersise wise coupled with a charity in so many months? Maybe a bike ride or something...

Benni.

Sad news, I knew a lady in her 40's who was massively fit, cycled everywhere, then had some sort of blood clot in the brain and just died. It happens to us all sadly.

Tragic news Jay, sorry to hear about it. Thoughts go out to the families and friends.

Just shows it can happen to anyone at any time. My best made had a stroke in November at the age of 30. Thankfully he's almost fully recovered now but it certainly makes you take stock of life.

Chin up fella.

my problem is im quite thick set so will always be big,but not good to be carrying 19-20 stone around.but i think i would look silly(prob superb!!) at 14 stone-i think i would be comfy at 15-16 stone.

hard to believe i was cheshire sprint champion at 100 metres when i was 15/ 16 and played rugby until 21......driving and lazy lifestyle took over then....up to about 32 out every weekend on beer, fags and drugs.I
lead a very quiet life now and have a 5 year old girl,a 15 month old grandson and a decent woman-would hate to leave them all behind so soon, but for some reason i can get motivated foodwise for a week or so but fall back into bad habits so easily.....
hard to understand as well as my mrs works out virtually every night and doesnt really eat badly-but i seem to be addicted to bad food-crisps/chocolate/cakes/takeaways.........got to get it sorted though!

This is sad news mate, but a sore and good awakening to your self as you make out.

My uncle billy believe it or not died last year aged 42 heart attack, he was a landscaper (sp) smoked roll-ups and had a bevvy at the weekend, was around 5,10 height and 12stone max.

Sometimes it dont matter about life style, but in most cases does.

Its shaken me a good bit even tho im quite fit, but like you food is a problem for me, building sites and snack bars go in toe so i cant hide from it.

Plus i was splaying football at least twice a week for 2 hours a time now thats fucked as i`ve done damage to my cartlige, 28 years old and my knees fucked, shite!!!

real sad news, my uncle died age 47, went to the gym regulary, watched what he eats, had the odd drink, but nothing major, was diagnosed with a brain tumour, within 10 weeks he was dead, so that was my nan, grandad and uncle that all died within a 3 month period, realy shook my dad up as it was his twin brother and with my dads health issues, due to a major fall, it really put things into perspective.

we are here for a good time, not a long time, so make the most of what you have got

Stroke is often caused by high blood pressure, known as the "silent killer" because often you will have no other symptoms.

Go and get your blood pressure checked to put your mind at rest.

Sorry to hear about your friend

RIP

Thats just a total nonsense with todays treatments though mate, loads of things that kill people (like the stroke in this example for example) are frequently caused by something easily prevented (like high blood pressure often in the case of a stroke, tablet a day and you live another 20 years past when nature would have snuffed you out!)

If you would like some more info, read this:

...yep its a big worry to someone like me too...but i go with Paul no matter what you do to your body when your time is up its up..unless of course you abuse drugs drive too fast you know accident wise.

You can prolong your life though by regular heath checks if you feel you come from bad stock. We got a new hospital goin up next to us at work that does that body screening where it can tell wether you are gonna have a heart attack within the next 5 years or the start of cancer etc Talk about playing God!!!

So when your time is up its up, and there is no point trying to affect any sort of lifestyle or diet or medication or other medical treatment change ever to improve your odds of survival?
May as well close all the hospitals then
