Been down to his workshop before and he often gets "ringers" through insurance companys etc but of course isn't allowed to sell them as complete cars.

we have a copart near us mate and they only take the id and the plates off them, the chassis numbers are left on the car while in the scrappies, im sure someone could identify it no problem from there.

i did not say any different mate , i was commenting on the pic in the original link , the pic of the car being hoisted from the flat bed by a fork lift has the number plates still on ,and your right if the chassis no is still in place then the cars identified without a problem .

The car was only collected for the insurance by copart and not sold through them Hence why it was let out of the yard with its number plates still fitted .

The vin tags etc were removed by the owner

The car is cat B and the logbook is held with DVLA and if anyone tries to apply for it will be told NO so its ID is of no use to anyone anyway so irrelivant that it has the chassie number in the floor

Shame another one is lost Daz as im sure it could have been repaired

A cat b is a cat B , Break only ,,No LEGAL way to put a Cat b with a break only order placed on it back on the road

How is it possible when DVLA have the logbook and know the car has been broked for spares as the shell was so badly damaged

And no im not trying to get you to say how to do it as i know you will say you wont say to cover your arse because you cant

UNLESS , your talking about shipping the car overseas then bringing it back , wink wink

he car was never owned by " COPART " tho mate

The car was only there as it was recovered by them and stored by them until the owner collected

ive personally VIC tested 1 cat a, and 3 cat b cars in my time at vosa,

there is no legal reason why a cat a or b car cannot go back on the road. the cat marker is an advisory from the insuruer and legally means nothing. The only point of no return for any car is when it gets issued a COD msrker, certificate of destruction, these are issued against the car upon its destruction

if the owner has cut the id out, hes a twat, as you can ring vosa and book a vic check for a cat a or b, and the dvla will issue a new v5

So what is the purpose of the categories then? I would personally NEVER buy a cat a or b car to drive on the road, regardless of whether it's legal to do so or not. Imagine trying to sell a cat a on afterwards which is CRUSH ONLY!

yeah it has a massive effect on resale value,

they get put into the catergories by the insurance assesor depending on damge/cost/ and what areas are damaged,

i would imagen the cat b would be heafty chassis damage. cat a is normally fire damage etc

they have the catergories simply to allow people to have an idea of how bad the damage is, but legally it mean nothing at all.

the vic test is more involved on cat a and b cars, but i cant say why or how as im not allowed, i had to sign the official secrets act to do them and can get prosicuted if i tell you too much
