Default why wont the car start ???

its my mams rover 214 R reg.....not the best cars i know but it does her...

u turn the key and the engine turns ok but it just wont fire, u have to gently tap the throttle and it just to say starts, but this sometimes doesent work and it ends up flattening the battery ??

any thoughts ?

If it's influenced by the position of the throttle I would start by checking tps output.

It could be flooding whilst standing, like a leaking injector, and when you open the throttle abit it allows it to clear the flood and start. If it doesnt start, take the plugs out and see if they are covered in petrol or not.
