Default gearbox oil leak t5

is there a common place for the cossie t5 to leak i'm getting a small drop of oil underneath i've cleaned the bottom of the gear box to see if i can see where it's coming from but just woundered if there was a common place. Also what is the best sealant to use when re-assembling a gear box.

Cheers,
Phil

Fave place is the rear seal, sometimes the speedo drive seal or ring wears a flat, but not very common here.
Best sealant ?, personally I would go with Loctite 5900 or 5910.

if it is coming from the rear seal then i would not expect it to be found on the bottom of the main case. it could be the sealant from the two cases.

this is what i was thinking it was hence the question about the sealent as when i cleaned off the bottom of the box it looked like someone had tried to use a silicone type sealent to seal the two parts together.

thanks for both the replies i'll take a look tomorrow when i get into work and see if i can see for sure where the leak is coming from.

if the rear seal is leaking can this seal still be bought and is it realativly straight forward to change. Im gonna be taking the box out for a good clean and to fix the leak so might do the seal at the same time?

cheers,
Phil

That's not a bad price at all, but I would see if there is a VITON one in this size instead.
I find with oil leaks, oil goes all over the place and it is hard to see where the leak is sometimes, if it is a join, then just wipe and use the loctite 5900 or 5910, this will stick, smear all the way around it will stop the leak.

right just stuck my head underneath and the leak seams to be coming from the rear seal and the speedo drive. Has any one got a guide on how to change the rear seal and where i can get a new speedo drive seal from.

many thanks,
Phil
