Default Building a turbo engine on another type of cvh block :? (na)

was chatting to my mate about building my bottom end on another RST bottom end,But seeing as i'll be changing the crank, rods, pistons bolts etc etc he said I could build on a XR2 cvh bottom end as it wouldnt be as stressed as a turbo block

could you do this ? and is it very safe not being an RST bottom end???? I plan on soon buying another bottom end from a RST but I have an XR2 sitting around that if I could build a bottom end on I will?

CheeRS in advance Radleigh

I'd stick with the rst bottom end imo You'll have to have the turbo oil feeds machined on a xr2 block

no real difference in terms of stresses or differences in block AFAIK

but as mentioned above the oil feed - so you may aswell stay with an rst one if you can find one that hasn't been rebored already.

hmmm dificult question this...
in terms of actual stress them its likely the RST block will have had a fair bit more.. will this of weekened the block.. not really...
The thing is all CVH blocks were the 'same' apart from the oil feed and the CPS etc.
The MAJOR thing to look out for is the actual casting of the block.. some CVH blocks have HORIFFICALLY thin bore walls as it is! you wouldnt want the be pumping 25+Psi and over 250 horses thru a block like that i tell thee.
Best thing IMO is to get someone to check the block over and say if it is suitable for the application... any tuner you trust would be able to do this..
i would take it to Karl personally. will at least put your mind at rest when you hammer your foot down and see the boost gauge go off the dial!

your all wrong

the oil feed is just a Tpiece that screws in the oil pressure switch hole

its the oil RETURN that isnt machined into a N/A block

no it is not

its in the same place however the union on a frst block is threaded for the t2 oil return as it screws on

on erst block the union is a push on fitting rubber hose push on clip up

if you are fittign a T3 on a frst replace this union with an ERST one or the thread will chew the rubber hose up

s2 and frst both had the small pipe inside the block also directing the oil feed down into the sump dont think s1 did.

Me, lewis and danP were chatting about you last night melv, and the burberry cap

LMAO!! coonts!!!

i may replace my zvh with the FRST engine i have in the garage, but it currently has a t2 fitted and want to use the t3 thats on it.... detracting from the thread slightly sorry rosscoe!

A/R still depends on the size of the turbo with respect to lag. etc.... as you may have a huge A/R but if the turbo is actually small then it wont be any good.

if you want to do this rad the easiest way would be to have a hole drilled in the sump a tube welded in facing upwards for the turbo return and just run it that way

you will need to use a RST head tho

why will you need an rst head???

unless its (efi)FRST or series one theres not any significant difference (if its an EARLY xr2 engine)

early XR2 heads were NON-Lean burn.

so depending which engine he has depends whether head is same as rst or not.

also there are few rumours of lean burn heads been very effective on rs turbos - but they have to be modded extensively.

heard of severn valley using them, interpro, and NMS
