Default Vauxhall Vivaro, Renault, Nissan Vans

morning

Last week i changed a slave cylinder on a Vauxhall Vivaro van (same vans as the renault & Nissan)

now the problem, the bloke i done it for says that the gearbox is really notchy going from 1st to 5th, before the slave went he said he used to be able to change gear using one finger as it was so smooth

anyone come across this before? i'm pretty sure i routed the gear cables correctly

also, anyone got autodata to check the grade of oil for the box?

i had one of these vans for 2 weeks and learnt my lesson, bought a 05 toyota hiace not quick but given me no trouble, the amount of these vans for sale with gearbox faults, surely vauxhall should of did a recall.

did the clip come out at all that adjusts the length of the gear cables? Had the same problem in the past and that was the cause.

you havent filled the gearbox to the level of the fill bung have you, sounds the same as what i did made the gearbox very tight, dain it out and put in 2.6 ltrs of 75w/80w.

but as said above have also changed the clutch master cylinder and the gearboxs do shit them selfs quite often.

Ive done three clutches now and each time ive had to change the master cylinder on the pedal.

Just make sure if you do another to change it all, clutch, concentric and master cant go wrong then.

£24 for the master cylinder from vauxhall so no big deal.

Crap van imo, we have had atleast 4 in broken down with crank sensor wiring faults too.

whilst the discussion about these vans are here, anyone know why my pals one wont rev if the cluth is pressed in then revs freely when in neutral at idle. He cant pull away without 'slippin the clutch' but wil cruise like nothings wrong when it gets its speed up. Its very dangerous at pullin away , gearbox works fine !!!

think i sussed it mate, for some reason i had it in my mind that they were no adjustable - i adjusted one and it did seem better; hopefully the guy i done it for will think the same

as for the gearbox i put a 80 weight oil in and 2.6l so i think that was alright

cheers all for your replies, and yeah these vans are shite; people buy them because they are quite nice to drive

I picked up numerous vivaros with fucked gearboxes when i did recovery, they just lock up. mostly had to use skates to get then off the truck and in the dealer.. they seem to only last about 60 to 80 thousand mile

Dont know why but my old transit and my current expert both do it as well, wont rev over 3k with the clutch pushed in, wonder if its to save the clutch to much abuse (i.e. fit cheaper clucthes as standard)?

fuelling problems
air mass meter
fuel regulators
fuel pumps
crank sensor wiring

list is endless.

It's to stop people abusing the fuck out of them and fucking the DMF usually, a rev limit of 3000 rpm so people cant do 5000rpm launches.

Do you know from what year/month on that was cured? I get offered loads of fleet cars at work and funnily enough all of them Vivaros/Trafics have broken gearboxes....

Work mate has a Nissan, Went looking for a door trim for the passenger door. Main dealer wanted €170!! Went to an opel (Vauxhall) dealer and got it for €29 !!! The dealer either fooked up or else go to vauxhall for all your parts!
