Default head light problem?

I left my car on a friends drive over the christmas holiday while i was away, and the lights were working as they should be, I picked the car up on tuesday evening and the side lights work but the head lights come on with them to and if i put the head lights on the lights go really dim! so i thought bad earth wih the cold weather we have had, i went to ford and bought new relays put them in and the lights seemed to work as in when i swicth the head lights on they come on, but with the side lights just on i seem to still get the head lights coming on but only dim, i thought ok i'll sort it another day but needed the car last night and now power the battery was dead so looks like ive got a short!
ive chased the wiring and cant find any faults but if i take the blue wire off the drivers head light the lights all work fine as they should so my question is where does the blue wire from the head light go? and is that an earth return from the bulb?

sorry its so long winded but thats where im at!

cheers dave

can't think which wires which without going out to check, but check the condition of your bulbs if you haven't already

Thumbs down

Well still not better I've chased the blue wire to a blue relay under the dash next to the fuel relay! Looks like an auto electrician is needed now.........
