evening all,

i'v just bought a focus rs ap heavy duty organic clutch kit for my mk5 escort zetec turbo project...
but when i went to fit it to the flywheel, i'v found the bolt's that held my normal clutch on arn't long enough to fit through the ap clutch
which bring's me to my question...

do focus rs's have longer bolt's that hold the clutch to the flywheel? if so, does anyone have the part number for the bolt's so i can get some, the ford dealership round here is crap and they can never get anything

any help with this would be awesome as it's just these bolt's that are holding me up from being able to fit my engine and box

 

I will be fitting the same clutch to my engine saturday so wouldnt mind knowing part numbers either. I have heard they need longer sized bolts before though

 

i'll go down my loacl ford garage tomorrow and see if they can come up with anything.

Im confused? Do you mean the Fly wheel bolts or the Pressure plate bolts as the clutch itself is not bolted to anything it just slips on the input shaft.

 

The FRS clutch cover bolts are FINIS 4105253. K Head M8 x 25mm IIRC.

You do realise that the concensus opinion on this Forum is that hydraulic operated clutches do not fit in the bellhousing of cable operated MTX gearboxes. Especially the FRS with the thick alloy cover plate.

My Focus RS clutch fits fine with my cable clutch/rod linkage MTX.

Ordered my bolts today so was going to give the FINIS code, they are 95p each by the way

 

Old thread but having trouble getting these from ford is there any other options?

 

What, pressure plate bolts or clutch plates?
Did you try an AP agent?
There should be clearance, given the AP pressure plate, to use HT bolts if you can't get the k head ones from Ford, if you use a thin walled socket.

 

Pressure plate, tried the finnis no above but they aren't in stock at the moment.

 

Its an AP clutch. Have you tried looking the number up on AP web site and order from an agent. May have to use a slightly uprated one.

 

The ford bolts are fine but they need to be replaced when fitting a new clutch. But will have a look on the ap site.

Also It's a frs clutch/flywheel in a rs2000 box

The absolute necessity to replace clutch cover bolts is another urban myth like the changing of release bearings/cylinders, hanging over from 60/70s.

 

The manual tells you too plus the bolts are quite soft material.

Will the clutch fit in a rs2000 box

 

As I said its a hang over from when normal CS bolts were used. Also a CBA for costs of dropping gearbox off again to a Garage. The hardness of the bolts is irrelevent, its the tensile strength and the applied forces. Generally its a retention force not a clamping force, and certainly not a yield strain.

Release bearings use to be a carbon, so unlike a roller bearing had to be considered a consumable. Again, though now a roller bearing and hydraulic cylinder, the manufacturer will recomend replacement each time the box comes off.
CBA says compare the likelihood of failure after 'looking' at it, cost of new assembly, labour cost of dropping box off again.

If you go through the thread, there seemed to be reports that a hyrdaulic release clutch assembly didn't fit a cable operation clutch gearbox. XRT_si said his was OK.

The focus manual states that the ib5 bolt can be used again but for the mtx needs to be replaced.

 

and even if they are not supposed to be changed...i would change them anyways...its such a little cost when you are doing all that work to change the clutch....so to not change them is just plain stupid if you ask me.

to those how said the bolts do not need replacing..i do not mean that YOU are stupid

 

Last time I needed some (about 3months) ford had 1 in Europe, and the rest back order wit no date available. I bought the one and then matched it up with a local bolt company ... In fact I went a little stronger with the material.

Do you remember the bolt thread and sizes? I'm in need of these bolts.

 

M8x30mm. They are a flange head, but a normal head and washer shouldn't be an issue on clearance. 8.8 tensile strength.

hi can any one help I don't no witch clutch to go for I am running 280bhp I am looking at a 6paddle eather the helix or ap racing or if you no off a better one I want the clutch to be able to handle about 400bhp and I want to uprate my drive shafts on my escort mk6 gti

 

The focus rs Sachs clutch is popular, worth looking into that, probably looking around £550-£600 delivered.

I know this thread is waaaaay old but it helped me alot as im about to fit an ap paddle to a 2.0 black top mtx 75 with lsd and found same problem short bolts.

Burton have these for anyone else running in to same problem.

Part number as follows

FP451 - 1.25 "
FP452 - 1.5"
FP454 - 1.75"

Bout 75p each
