Default The Joys Of Water

This might have been mentioned before but i have looked and not found anything, i have read on other forums about this problem with no result so thought i would ask in here.

2001 1.6 Focus Estate zetec

Problem is i am getting water in my spark plug wells over the course of a week i am getting 5mm or more of water in spark plug well 1 & 2 none in 3 or 4. I have taken the plastic cover off to check the rubber seal which is fine and also gave it a good clean and checked all over, can't see where water is getting in. i know some people say it's the washer jets leaking back so i have run mine dry and ran it for a week also ran it when it's not raining and still get the water i can not find out where it is coming from and is playing silly buggers with my Plugs & HT Leads

Any help would be great

Many Thanks

Danny

Either rain water leaking through washer jet holes in bonnet or could be a leaking core plug leaking coolant into the well, quite common too. Is it using any coolant?

There's a core plug in the well somewhere, it a round plug that seals the cooling system, about an inch in diameter, they are just pressed into the head and its not uncommon for them to leak. Is it using coolant?

It's not using coolant that i can see but i might be wrong if it's a small amount each week. I took the plastic cover off at the weekend theres a round metal bolt looking thing inbetween plugs 1 and 2 with a hex shape in the middle, is this what you mean? if so do i replace it?

That could be it, although the only core plugs i have seen look like a metal disc with rounded edges that just press fit into the head.

Look here and you will see what i mean. They are reasonably straightforward to fit, but you need to get them perfectly square when refitting or they will just leak again!

In fact I have just had a look into it for you, those hex key bolt things are the core plugs!

Have a read through this.
