Default What do i do and What do you suggest? Now With Car Specs....

I thinking of biting the bullet and getting something a bit more exciting for a main use car.

I currentley have a Focus 1.8 TDCi on a 53 plate which is coming upto 15,000 miles.

I wanna chop it in for something a little less.....................erm Sensible?

I really like the new Fiesta ST, i prob could stretch to the £13,500 on the road price but the thing that biting me is the instant depreciation as soon as i drive off of the forecourt

I'm looking prob around Feb/March to actually do something, i just dont REALLY know what to go for tho I'm ever considering something with a different badge on the boot

Heres my needs.............

1. MUST be reliable, because of my job. (so must be fairly new-ish)
2. MUST have fairly sensible servicing costs.
3. Needs to be small (3 door hatchback i.e. Clio, Type-R)
4. Around a 2.0 litre engine with or with a Turbo.

Any suggestions and experiences with any small fast hatchbacks would be really apprciated.

I'm swaying towards a Type-R, any feedbck on these at all??

All and any help needed as i'm fooking well confused!!

Id book a test drive with:

182 clio

If you are gonna tune it at all, no doubt the mini wins.

My mate has the Type R which he got second hand. He got a really good deal from Honda on it and is really pleased with it. No complaints and is currently looking at the supercharger kit for it. Personally I am not convinced about the lines on it, looks a little too estate like than coupe IMO.

Watched the Italian Job the other night (remake) and my girlfriend wants a new mini now. I can see her thinking and even though I vowed never to go in another old mini again after a shunt, the new one I could be tempted with for her. May go and have a test drive in the next few days.

Those are the only two I would consider from that list really unless you want proper Jap coupe i.e FTO, Skyline or 200SX.

hmmmm, i would propberbly go for the type R out of that list.
The ST170 didnt impress me at all to be honest.
The vauxhall astra sri turbo looks nice.

Dont you fancy a change from a Ford lol, why not say one of the last 200sx turbo (s14), or even a FTO?

And why does it need to be small lol.

My sister has a cooper, very nice cars apart from being very rigid on the suspension, great for going round corners but shit for town driving or places with alot of speed humps or crap roads, most of the uk then!

Civic Type R, then get it supercharged and tuned by spoon if you have the cash, I think I've seen one about 350 BHP plus you get Jap reliability

I see what you both mean and it seems the 200sx is a popular car as it gets mentioned on here quite a bit. TBH I've never really been in a jap motor so i'm a little about them, I dont like the Nissan 200 - too big and the FTO just dosen't do it for me + if either of these goes wrong i cant imagine them being to cheap to get repaired

On speaking to Andy RST a while ago about his ST170, he didn't seem overly impressed with it either.

For cheap and cheerful and as fast as a standard cossie you will find it hard to beat a nova with an XE engine chucked in it, mid-high 14 second quarters and 40+mpg with bullt proof reliability, but then again could you face being seen in a nova?

Ok budget wise around £10 - £15k, looking for cars with low 1000's in mileage on, so x-demo cars things like that.

and as for modding it, maybe in time but not a importance as i'll have the cabbie in the summer months. Its really for using day to day, being on call for work and peace of mind that it'll start on a cold winters morning when theres 2ft of snow on the ground.

Lol, fair enough, you'll just have to do what most other hot hatch drivers i meet in mine do then and face being beaten by one instead

Cupra type r is a pretty godo choice in terms of performance potential, but then again it depends on what you are after, you say you arent bothered at getting beaten by things, so why not go for something moderately comfortable and that is pretty economical, for example i would suggest:

a Focus 1.8 TDCi on a 53 plate which is coming upto 15,000 miles

This might help for the Focus

Liking that Cupra mate only driven the Peugeot GTI 180 has nice amounts of power from 2000rpm (no lag to worry about!!!) and is only beaten by Type-R on performance, probably the best equipped as standard too

Think I'd go with the Type-R tho, best for all out fun and shouldn't have to do a lot to get over 200 BHP

Nice motors, i had a 205 mi16 once briefly myself.

Thats a superb oldskool hatch, great performance, great handling and got a touch of heritage too.

Even got decent seats (although the elecrics, gearboxes, dash etc are typically frech poor build quality)
